To any first responders in and around Nolan County, the Smalley Foundation will host a gas pipeline training awareness class will take place at the Sweetwater Fire Department. The class will be held in the training room on three separate nights including Tuesday, July 31, Wednesday, August 1, and Thursday, August 2, at 6 p.m. each evening.
The mission of the Smalley Foundation is to increase safety and awareness for those who live, work and play near the nationâs oil and gas sites and pipelines through empowering the general public, training first-responders and partnering with industry.
SWEETWATER, Texas â A year and a half after opening, Shermco Industriesâ Sweetwater office recently threw its long-awaited grand opening celebration. The open house event was a customer appreciation barbecue for the companyâs West Texas client base, and a big hit with close to 100 customers, employees and local businessmen that attended.
Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and many members of the community showed their support for the newest Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce member, Year Round Yard Sale, on Friday, July 6, 2012, with a ribbon cutting ceremony held at the business at 710 Lamar Street. Store owners are Temy Teel and Bobbie Dunn.
Reserved season tickets for the 2012 football season will be up for renewal to current option holders beginning Monday, July 9 through Friday, Aug. 3.
Tickets are $30 for five home games and may be purchased at the Sweetwater ISD administration office. Reserved ticket sales for the general public go on sale on Monday, Aug. 6 during regular business hours and continue through Friday, Aug. 24. Summer hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to noon Friday. For more information, call the administration office at 235-8601, ext. 116.
Griselda Sanchez, Enrollment Advisor for the Wind Energy program at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater had the opportunity to gain extensive knowledge about the wind industry thanks to the Sweetwater Chapter of the Women in Wind Energy.Â
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 59 calls for service, issued two citations and made two arrests on July 5, 2012.
The SPD received 33, 911 calls.

Aglow International Sweetwater Community Lighthouse will host their monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 300 SE Georgia Avenue. Guest speaker will be Joy Blauvelt from Colorado City. Joy loves to see people set free to serve God. Joy and her husband David are on the praise team at Christian Fellowship Church in Colorado City. Joy is the President of the Aglow Lighthouse in Colorado City. The joy of the Lord is manifest in Joy's life and ministry.

A weekend event will be planned in Roscoe. Area residents are once again invited to join in the festivities âOn The Bricksâ in historic downtown Roscoe to celebrate our great nation on Saturday, July 7, 2012.
A Babysitting Camp will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2012, at the Texas State Technical College activity center.
Those attending can get ideas for food, games and activities to do with the kids they are babysitting, which will be housed in a notebook that the participant gets to take home along with many other great ideas for babysitting. There will also be CPR Certification available and demonstration of first aid techniques.
Cost for the camp is $50 for students ages 13-18 years of age only.
Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital offered free watermelon to the community on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, to celebrate Independence Day.
Also given were small flags and patriotic footballs. Many showed up for the event and enjoyed the treats and company of others on the holiday.
