Aglow International Sweetwater Community Lighthouse will host the "Back to School Prayer Walk" on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, 412 Newman Street.Â We will gather at the church for a short Word and some praise and worship before we go out and cover our schools with prayer. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the fellowship hall.

The Sweetwater Fire Department has recently promoted one of its own to Assistant Fire Chief. Paul King is the newest supervisor of his shift after the retirement of Jim Porter after 35 years of service.
King is an Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician and a firefighter, who has been with the Sweetwater Fire Department for 11 years.
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has three dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a male blue heeler puppy, a female terrier mix and a male terrier mix. According to Sweetwaterâ€™s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
Last week, a 73-year-old Sweetwater woman was scammed over the phone, but this scam pulled at the woman's heart strings, making her even more vulnerable to the scammers and essentially blinding her from seeing the red flags.
"A man called me that morning, around 10:30 a.m. and told me that he was my eldest grandson," stated the victim. "His voice sounded different and I told him so, but he said that his sinuses were stopped up."
One person was killed in a two vehicle crash in Eastland County.
At about 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 on Interstate 20 near mile marker 346 in the west bound lane, Jessica Marie Rogers, 20 years of age, of Henrietta, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro in Eastland County.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 60 calls for service, issued three citations and made no arrests on Aug. 8, 2012.
The SPD received 22, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had five calls for service, served three civil papers and made five arrests on Aug. 8, 2012.

On Friday night, we'll see a low around 70 with mostly clear skies. The winds will be at 5 to 10 mph, changing from the northeast to the southeast after midnight.
Saturday, it'll be sunny, hot and temps will top out at the century mark with east-southeast winds coming in at 5 to 10 mph. Saturday night will be mostly clear with a low around 75; winds will be from the southeast at 5 to 10 mph.
