Starting this school year, school districts nationwide must meet new standards of nutrition for meals as part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which strives to provide all children with healthy school food.
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has four dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a male Husky/Shepherd mix, a female border collie mix, a male chihuahua and a male mixed breed dog. According to Sweetwater’s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
During the City Commission meeting held on Tuesday morning, August 21, a representative of the WASP (Women's AirForce Service Pilots) Museum gave a presentation on the proposed new construction that will expand the facilities.
A handout was given to the commissioners, which offered an outlook on the future of the facility and ideas on potential exhibits. At the present time, the museum is working with an architect and architect manager, both based out of the Dallas area.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 39 calls for service, issued no citations and made three arrests on Aug. 23, 2012.
The SPD received 20, 911 calls.
