The John Wayne Film Fest (JWFF) returns to Snyder, Texas for the second year in a row this Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 31 through Sept. 2. Held at the town's historic Ritz Theater on the square, this is a rare opportunity to see some of the Duke's most legendary films on the big screen. The weekend will begin on Friday at noon with the classic Rio Lobo, and include screenings of True Grit, Red River, The Quiet Man and The Green Berets, among others.
A blood drive will take place inside Sweetwater Spine Clinic, located at 1413 Hailey, on Thursday, Aug. 30, from noon until 6 p.m.
“Both bloodmobiles are currently undergoing maintenance and are unavailable until the first week of September,” said Frances Baker, donor recruiter. “Dr. King has generously offered the use of Sweetwater Spine Clinic for a blood drive. All blood types are needed to ensure an adequate inventory of blood for the Labor Day weekend holiday,” Baker continued.
Students at Sweetwater Independent School District campuses have at least 45 minutes of physical education each day during the school year to help maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The Nolan County Hospital District Board of Directors met for their regular meeting on Monday evening, August 27, 2012 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH), in which the board approved a change to the hospital’s server room and upgrades to their IT equipment.
While some quotes had already been received, the approval allowed for another quote to be obtained, in order to determine which bid comes in at or lower than the set limit.
One person pled guilty to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012.
Corey Dustin Spurlock pled guilty to driving while intoxicated, classified as a Class A Misdemeanor. For his plea, Spurlock received one year confinement in the Nolan County Jail, probated for two years. He will also have to pay a $4,000 fine and $484 in court costs. He will also have to be confined in the Nolan County Jail for 72 hours and serve 120 hours of community service. His driver's license will be suspended for one year.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 36 calls for service, issued one citation and made three arrests on Aug. 27, 2012.
The SPD received 17, 911 calls.

• Information — 500 block of Elm.
• Theft — 500 block of E. 12th.
• Sexual assault — Sweetwater area.

• Cedric Brown, 31 — Driving while license invalid/no insurance.
• George Gonzales, 61 — Warrants.
• Steven Medina, 40 — Warrants/theft.
Regardless of who wins the game, Saturday’s finale of this year’s eighth annual Sammy Baugh Classic at Mustang Bowl will mark a fairly significant milestone.
When Class 4A Everman and El Paso Del Valle meet that day at 6 p.m., it will mark the first time that two teams above the 3A level have played in the Classic, and of course, the first time they’ve played each other.
In fact, there’s been only one other team in Classic history above Class 3A that has participated.
