Sweetwater High School’s tennis team won 18 of 19 matches against San Angelo Lake View’s junior varsity on Tuesday in its first 2012 fall matches.
Girls doubles — Kristen Casto and Jenny Medellin won 8-2; Gewel Cherry and Teresa Perez-Poe won 8-2; Kayla Sage and Vida Gamez won 8-3.
Boys doubles — Brian Vause and Stephen Shipp won 8-3; Isaiah Hernandez and Billy Reeves won 8-4; Michael Redondo and Key-gan Valdez won 8-5.
Mixed doubles — Mark Butler and Brianna Hicks lost 5-8.
Three Sweetwater Mid-dle School football teams began their 2012 season Thursday at Breckenridge. Their results follow:
Breckenridge 42, 8th grade Red 14
Sweetwater Red scored on a 10-yard touchdown run by Javier Olguin in the third quarter and a 10-yard touchdown run by Hunter Mobley in the fourth quarter. Jacoby Hunt converted the PAT following Mobley’s run.
On defense, Olguin had a fumble recovery.
The Sweetwater Middle School eighth grade Red volleyball team won all three matches to take first-place honors at the Sweetwater
Middle School tournament held Sept. 8.
Sweetwater defeated Col-orado City 20-25, 25-9, 25-17 in its first tournament match, then defeated Brownwood 25-11, 25-17 and Albany 25-3, 25-2 to capture the championship.
Prior to playing in the tournament, the team lost on Sept. 6 to Wylie 22-25, 15-25. Sweetwater lost to Snyder by scores of 21-25, 23-25 on Sept. 10.
Monday's weather will be warmer than the past few days with sunny skies and a high near 86. Winds from the south-southwest at 5 to 10 mph will become north-northwest in the afternoon.
Tonight, we'll see increasing clouds with a low around 59. Northeast winds at 5 to 10 mph will change to north-northwest winds after midnight, and after 1 a.m., we'll have a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
