Billy Pat Pendergrass ("Pat") was born near Dexter, NM, but grew up in Sweetwater, TX. He was a top student, earned his Quartermaster Sea Scout Badge (equivalent to the Boy Scout Eagle, and earned in a town with little water), and his Eagle Scout Badge, played football in a leather helmet with no face mask, and ran the 880. He was a columnist for the school newspaper and a finalist in "Ready Writing". He was swimming instructor at the municipal pool and waterfront director for all summer camps of the BSA Buffalo Trails Council.
Graveside services for Janie Lou Reynolds, 67, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Abilene Municipal Cemetery. Rev. Ward Hayes will officiate and interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at McCoy Funeral Home.
Reynolds died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at her residence.
Jesse Alfred Lawhon, age 77, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
First Financial Bank in Sweetwater has been paying it forward by showing kindness and encouraging others to do the same and pass on the kindness to others. FFB has their own motto, "Pay It First."

In looking back over his past year as Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce President, Rodney Foster has come to realize that life truly is sweet in Sweetwater.
In contrast to the national economy, Foster says that Sweetwater has been a fortunate community in which to live, with a varied economic foundation that enables the city to thrive.
"A diverse economic base combined with our greatest attribute--great people, allows our community to enjoy a great reputation for raising a family," said Foster.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 52 calls for service, issued two citations and made two arrests on Sept. 20, 2012.
The SPD received 30, 911 calls.
