The consolidated churches of Holy Family, Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Albert participated in this yearâs softball coed church league organized by Emmanuel Fellowship Church. The âCathletesâ ended their season with a Sunday of burgers and hotdogs for the team members and their families, and there was also a game between the chldren and the adults.
After getting a week off, Roscoeâs football team is back in action today to start District 7-1A, Division II play at Baird. Roscoe (0-3) is still looking for its first win of the 2012 season after losses to De Leon, Irion County and Miles so far. However, the Plowboys face a Baird team (1-2) that has lost to De Leon and Haskell after defeating Menard in its season opener.
The Sweetwater volleyball team collected its first win in district play by defeating Snyder on Tuesday.
Now, Sweetwater (1-1) is back home Saturday to face a Big Spring team at 2 p.m. that is tied with Sweetwater in the district race for third place after losing to co-leader Wylie on Tuesday.
Big Spring (No. 17) is one of three District 4-3A teams ranked among the stateâs top 20 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
Wylie (2-0) is No. 1, while Monahans, which is also 2-0 in District 4-3A, is No. 20 in the latest poll.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 41 calls for service, issued 11 citations and made three arrests on Sept. 26, 2012.
The SPD received 17, 911 calls.

Mendon Jo Kill, age 25, of Sweetwater, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at Roby Cemetery. Burial will follow at Roby Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Mendon Jo was born on Nov. 16, 1986 in, Randolph, Vermont, to Stephen and Debbie (Ballenger) Kill. She worked for Allen Family Style Meals. She was a Vermonter at heart and loved animals.
Aspermont â Betty Louise Ross went to meet her Heavenly Fatjer on Thursday evening, Sept. 27, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Central Baptist Church in Aspermont, officiated by Rev. Robby Harris with burial to follow in the Aspermont Cemetery under the care and direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Aspermont.
Betty was born on Nov. 8, 1933, in Crosbyton to Ralph Porter Edwards and Ethel Lenora Edwards. She married Morgan Ross on Dec. 20, 1964, in Crosbyton.

The theme for this weekâs pep rally was âCommunity Heroes.â Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden spoke to the crowd. Also making his first public appearance was Freddie the Fire Truck. Chief Madden spoke to the elementary students and said that they were true heroes for all of the fundraising they did to repair Freddie and bring him back to Sweetwater.
