Makes 10 servings
1/2 pound (8 ounces) ground beef
3/4 cup water
1 package (1.25 ounces) Ortega Taco Seasoning Mix
1 can (16 ounces) Ortega Refried Beans

All class reunion this weekend

September 5, 2012

Another “All Class Reunion” for Homecoming 2012 is planned for Saturday, Sept. 8, from 2 p.m. to midnight at the Sweetwater High School Cafeteria, according to Linda Kiser Browning Miller, event director.
Jeff Stein of KXOX Radio will be the emcee, and Big Boys BBQ will cater the supper at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. and a short program will be held at 5 p.m. After the barbecue supper, J.B. Cloud of KBCY Radio of Abilene will serve as D.J. for the music and dance beginning at about 7:30 p.m. The D.J. will present music from the 50’s to the present.

WASP building committee reviews expansion plans

Members of the National WASP WWII Museum building committee met recently to discuss the museum’s proposed 8,000 square feet expansion project. Peter Fox, Vice President of Expansion, arranged for KBA Design Architect Bob Kilduff and Project Manager/Board Member Dave Zobrist of ZProjects to review the design details with the building committee. The building committee is comprised of Board President Carol Cain, Board Secretary Sandra Spears, Board V.P. Tom Henderson, Board Treasurer Steven May, Board Past President Bill Johnson, Board Member Alan Carmicheal and Executive Director Sharron Davis.

Two pets available for adoption

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has two dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a female Shih Tzu and a female kitten. According to Sweetwater’s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.

Walls going up at Golden Chick

September 5, 2012

A Golden Chick is currently being constructed along Interstate 20 in the plaza near Verizon Wireless. Construction was planned to last about 60 days from beginning to completion.

The SPD received 150, 911 calls.

Lady ‘Stangs crush C-City

It may be too early to think about making it to the postseason in late October, but something different is happening with the 2012 Sweetwater volleyball team — it’s beating its opponents regularly and convincingly, no longer seemingly content to extend its matches by a game or two.
The latest example came Tuesday when the team finally came home from a three-week-long road swing to entertain Colorado City.
