The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department wants to highlight the importance of continuing influenza vaccination, as well as fostering greater use of flu vaccine after the holiday season into January and beyond.
The health department wants to encourage residents to use preventive actions:
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.

It's not too late to make a donation to Sweetwater Goodfellows. Recently Trey Aiken, Mike Fernandez and Chris Casto presented a check on behalf of Texas National Bank to Billie Johnston, President of Goodfellows.
This year donations were considerably low in collection boxes around town and in local schools that firefighters picked up and collected. It has also been seen with the monetary donations that have been collected and mailed in.
Various action items regarding the Nolan County Sheriff's Office were presented and approved at the county commissioners' meeting held on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Among the items approved was a program which will allow Nolan County Sheriff David Warren to provide firearms proficiency certificates to qualified honorably-retired peace officers who last worked with Nolan County.
Wrapping up the local Cline Shale Session on Friday, December 14, 2012, was discussion on the possibility of taking part in a study conducted by the University of Texas San Antonio on the oil exploration and development.
A price change was seen if only a few counties took part in the study, but overall its purpose is to learn what is coming with the boom, how to address issues presently and how to deal with the development at it takes place.
However, it was noted that while the decision on the study takes place, entities should keep working on issues and not wait on results.
