The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 46 calls for service, issued seven citations and made two arrests from March 16-18, 2012.
The SPD received 46, 911 calls.
Calls for service:
⢠Theft â 400 block of NE Georgia.
⢠Criminal mischief/possession of drug paraphernalia â 1600 block of E. 12th.
⢠Sexual performance by a child â Sweetwater area.
⢠Theft â 1100 block of Elm.
⢠Sexual assault of a child â Sweetwater.
⢠Theft â 2000 block of Bristol.
⢠Criminal mischief â 1600 block of San Carlos.
⢠Theft â 1300 block of Bristol.
Sweetwater High Schoolâs softball and baseball teams hope to get back on the win-ning track today when they play District 5-3A games at home today against Wylie.
The SHS softball team, which is 10-6 overall but 0-1 in District 5-3A after losing to Big Spring on Friday, will face Wylie at 6:30 p.m. after a JV game at 5. The baseball team â which begins district play at 7 p.m. â has lost its last two games and seen its season record drop to 6-6-1.

The Sweetwater Junior Varsity Mustang baseball game with Wylie has been cancelled for today. They will play a double header on Saturday, April 7, 2012.
The 2012 U.S. FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) was held the first weekend of March for the Regional events in San Antonio. Competing in that Regional were 64 teams representing a number of states and Mexico. The game this year was entitled âRebound Rumble.â Traveling down to the Alamo Regional was the Roscoe Plowbots who made their third straight appearance in the FRC contest. The objective in the game was for teams, along with their alliance teams, to score as many baskets in goals that ranged from two to eight feet high.
High Sky Childrenâs Ranch and the West Texas Childrenâs Advocacy Center have once again partnered to host the Seventh Annual West Texas Child Abuse Awareness Family FunFair in Sweetwater. The FunFair will be held at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex on Wednesday, April 4, from 4-6:30 p.m. The Time of Remembrance will start at 6:05 p.m. and organizers ask that everybody stay for the ceremony honoring children who have been victims of child abuse.

Pedro P. Elizardo, Jr., age 88, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Nolan Nursing & Rehab.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Lionel Mendez, Sr. officiating. Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Okonkwo officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangments are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
All four of Sweetwater High Schoolâs athletes placed at the girls state powerlifting meet that was held on Saturday in Corpus Christi.
Loni Mendez had SHSâ top finish, placing seventh in the 181-pound weight class. She lifted 795 pounds with a 315-pound squat, 165-pound bench press and 315-pound dead lift.
