Sweetwater ISD bands to host coffee house concert

On Monday evening, Feb. 13, 2012, the Sweetwater ISD Bands will treat the community to a “Coffee House Concert” in the Sweetwater High School Cafeteria. From 6-8:30 p.m., student musicians will perform, as audience members snack on desserts and soft drinks.
For just $5, each listener can fill his plate with desserts! The evening will start with the sixth grade band (at 6 p.m.), followed by the seventh and eighth grade band and jazz band at 6:30 p.m., and finally the high school band at 7:45 p.m.

Statewide gas price average increases

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is one cent more than the average last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. The current statewide average is $3.39.

FFB promotes Renee Garcia to Assistant VP

Highland girls to get warmup

The 2011-12 basketball season ends today for the Roscoe boys and the Sweetwater, Highland and Blackwell boys finish up Tuesday, leaving Highland’s girls as the county’s only playoff-bound team after ending their season with a win at Westbrook this past Friday.
But the Lady Hornets will get in another game this week when they face New Home in a playoff warmup. The game is in Hermleigh and tips off at 8 p.m. today.
Sweetwater’s boys are idle today before ending their 2011-12 season next Tuesday at Snyder.

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Yield: 12 servings
3 cups refrigerated shredded hash browns
3 tablespoons melted butter
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
12 links Johnsonville Original
Breakfast Sausage
6 eggs
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded 4-cheese
Mexican blend cheese
1/4 cup chopped red bell pepper
Chopped fresh chives or green onions,
for garnish
Place 12 paper liners in a muffin pan; spray liners with cooking spray.

Bacteria Ninjas compete at robotics tournament

After months of intense preparation for this season’s FLL robotics competition challenge dubbed “Food Factor,” the Bacteria Ninjas from Sweetwater Middle School took their plastic blocks and brains to the table to compete at the fourth annual North Texas FIRST LEGO® League (FLL) Regional Championship Robotics Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012. Coached by Shana Hrbacek, Bacteria Ninja members were Anna Espinoza, Christa Martin, Abby Garcia, Bella Pena and Abby Lynch. The Bacteria Ninjas were sponsored by Ludlum Measurements in Sweetwater.

Annual Texas Farm, Ranch, Wildlife Expo set for Feb. 21-22

ABILENE — The annual Texas Farm, Ranch, Wildlife Expo is set for Feb. 21-22 on the grounds of the Taylor County Expo Center, located at 1700 State Highway 36 in Abilene. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 21 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 22.
The event is sponsored by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service and the Abilene Chamber of Commerce.
