Sweetwater High School senior Kyle Lambert was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Permian Basin Fair in Odessa.
Each year, the fair gives scholarships to high school senior 4-H and FFA (Future Farmers of America) members who show livestock at the fair and complete the application and interview process.
Lambert is the Student Advisor of the Sweetwater FFA Chapter and First Vice President of the Area 2 FFA Association. On Sunday, September 9, he exhibited his market lambs at the Permian Basin Fair.
The Sweetwater Chamber recently announced the participants for the 2012 Leadership Sweetwater as well as the new Future Sweetwater class.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 100 calls for service, issued eight citations and made 11 arrests from Sept. 14-16, 2012.

With its District 4-3A opener still four days away, the Sweetwater High School volleyball team shoots for a milestone today.
The Lady Mustangs (19-10) go for their 20th win at about 6:15 p.m. when they host Miles at the SHS gym. Sweetwater, which has not reached the 20-victory plateau since 2008, saw its most recent action Satur-day when it played a dual match in Lubbock.
The Lady Mustangs were pushed to the limit when they rallied for a 3-2 win over Lubbock Monterey, then lost by a 3-1 margin against Lubbock Cooper as they fell by scores of 18-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-25.
Sweetwater High Schoolâs freshman and junior varsity football teams were winners this past Thursday at home.
The freshmen defeated Breckenridge 32-16, while Sweetwaterâs JV squad beat Breckenridge 14-2.

A Friday morning fire has left a family without their home and without any of their belongings. The fire was electrical in nature and consumed the entire home and a vehicle as well.
The family â Alvin and Rosa Rogers and daughter Gracy Sosa â is currently staying at La Quinta in Sweetwater and a donation jar has been put at the front desk for donations for the family. As of right now, the family is mostly in need of clothes, as all of their clothes were burned in the fire. Any donations are much appreciated. Family clothing sizes include:
One in four adult Americans serve as caregivers to an elderly relative, spouse or friend. This crucial role can take a physical and mental toll on the caregiver, but with the appropriate knowledge and support, the job can be less taxing.
Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) understands the importance of caregivers. To make their job easier, the hospital is scheduling the first of what is intended to be a monthly support group meeting on Thursday, Sept. 20.
First Baptist Church announced the opening of Koinonia Coffee. The coffee shop opened last Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, with fresh ground coffee and homemade tea cakes in the newly remodeled Welcome Center on the corner of Third and Elm Streets.
Koinonia Coffee was originally planned with the remodel of the Education Building and is now beginning to take form and develop in its ministry to the community. The Welcome Center of First Baptist Church houses Koinonia Coffee and is a warm and friendly atmosphere to meet with friends and enjoy some great coffee and food.
Billy G. Rogers, 82, of Sweetwater, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, in Sweetwater. His body will be cremated with private family services at a later date.
