One airman had a goal to deploy once before his career came to a close, another was scheduled to deploy in September but had to depart earlier because of a shortfall. Each was destined for this particular base in Southwest Asia.
Senior Master Sgt. Joseph Doss is a 22-year veteran deployed from the 452nd Civil Engineer Squadron at March Air Force Base, Calif. He's a traditional reservist who is getting ready to complete his military career. But he wanted to deploy at least once before that career was over.
Maria C. Aguirre-AcuĂ±a, Associate Vice President Enrollment Management at Texas State Technical College West Texas has been named to the Executive Committee for the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (TACARO).
AcuĂ±a has been with TSTC West Texas for 27 years. She graduated with her AAS from TSTC in 1986 and began working as a student recruitment officer at the college. AcuĂ±a continued her education earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Masters in Management from Wayland Baptist University.
Patti Neill, Nolan County District Clerk, announced today that she would not seek another term. Her current term will end on Dec. 31, 2014, and she intends to complete her commitment.
Neill began her career with the county in 1977 as a deputy for Betty Bryant in the County Tax Assessor-Collector's office, then began working for District Clerk Vera Holloman in 1990. She ran for the office 16 years later when Holloman decided to run for re-election. At the time of her retirement, Neill will have served two terms.
Viola Sue Hankins lived 70 wonderful years. After her brave fight with breast cancer in 2006, her strong will to live and unwavering faith in God carried her through; until her battle resumed and on Oct. 7, 2013, she passed away at her home in Cloudcroft, N.M.
Sue was born Feb. 28, 1943, in Ft. Worth to Eugene and Mary Loraine Bristow. She had two sisters, Winona Jamison and Helen Hargett; her parents and Winona preceded her in death.
Joe K. Smith, 77, of Abilene, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at Wisteria Place Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A committal service will follow at noon at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
