The 2013 Nolan County Health Fair took place today in the Texas State Technical College Student Center on Tuesday. This yearâs fair saw a record 50 booths according to TSTC Health and Wellness Coordinator, Joni Coons. The booths covered nearly all aspects of healthcare. TSTC Nursing had several booths speckled throughout the event where student nurses checked height and weight, respirations, temperature and counseled on cancer prevention and nutrition. Ashley Lindsey and Brianna Guerrero, both TSTC Vocational Nursing students who are graduating next month, manned the nutrition booth.
The Constitutional Amendment Election was held yesterday, with a total of 654 votes cast over the nine county precincts.
The majority of the votes came in on Tuesday, with 473 ballots cast. Early voting totals--two weeks prior to the election--totaled 172, while nine ballots were cast via voting by mail.
Nine propositions were on the ballot, with all measures passing. The main topic of discussion within the voting was Proposition 6, which dealt with using funding from the state's Rainy Day Fun to expand water supplies to keep up with the state's growth.
Glenn Stifflemire, Group Publisher for both the Sweetwater Reporter and the Big Spring Herald is pleased to announce that effective this Thursday, Zela Armstrong will take on the role of General Manager/Advertising Director at the Reporter and will handle all of the day to day management of the local newspaper.
Before her return to the Reporter in December 2012 as an advertising executive, Armstrong served on the sales team nine years ago.
Lowell Wray Snowden Abeita, age 59, of Roscoe, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Adam Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at the funeral home.
Tobie Davidson passed away peacefully on Oct. 26, 2013, at 85 years of age. She was born Jan. 3, 1928 in San Angelo, Texas as the second oldest of eight children. She married Isidoro Gonzalez in 1950 and eventually moved to Odessa, Texas where together they had four children âÂ Alicia (Alice), Arthur, George and Raymond. Tobie was a loving mother, diligent homemaker and good cook for her family during the 18 years they were married. In 1972, she married Ed Davidson and they enjoyed rural living, fishing and camping for many years. They moved to Colorado City, Texas in 2005.

Sweetwater 8th grade âBâ and âAâ teams will host Wylie at 6:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., respectively.
Sweetwater freshman and JV teams will play at Wylie at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
Roscoe junior high and JV teams will host Roby at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respec-tively.
Highland JV will host Hermleigh, 4:30 p.m.
Highland varsity will host Hermleigh, 7:30 p.m.
Blackwell junior high hosts Panther Creek, 6 p.m.
Blackwell JV will host Garden City, 7:30 p.m.
CRANE â Sweetwaterâs first volleyball playoff game in five years started well for the Lady Mustangs, who held several comfortable leads in the opening game of Tuesdayâs bi-district matchup with Fabens.
However, the Lady Wild-cats suddenly came alive with a 9-0 run that turned an 18-13 Sweetwater lead into a 22-18 deficit. Fabens won, 25-22, and went on to complete a three-game sweep after winning the last two games by scores of 25-19 and 25-13 at Crane High Schoolâs gym.
The seventh grade Red picked up the only football victory for Sweetwater Middle School at Mona-hans this past Thursday.
All four SMS teams will end their seasons by hosting Wyie this Thursday.

Sweetwater Red got TDs from Carson Brownlow (15-yard run), Ethan Cabal-lero (20-yard run) and Alex Gallegos (70-yard run) in the first half vs. Monahans, and Taiden Smith also scored on a 75-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter. Brownlow and Gallegos had extra-point runs.
Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 59. Winds will be from the north-northeast at 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
