WTEC attempts to guide region in potential growth

Former Texas Railroad Commission Victor Carrillo said his strong desire to see economic development in his hometown and surrounding area led to his acceptance of an offer to serve as chairman of the West Texas Energy Consortium.
The new organization will attempt to guide the region’s communities through the potential growth and subsequent problems that may develop from the growth spurred by an oil boom.

May announces candidacy for Nolan County Judge

With the support of family, friends, and colleagues, Whitley May, a local business owner, is announcing his Republican candidacy for Nolan County Judge.
May is a fourth generation Nolan County native and is raising the fifth generation in Nolan County. He and his family are members of First United Methodist Church. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, hunting and working on the farm.

Muncy announces candidacy for Precinct 2 Nolan County Commissioner

Terry Muncy is announcing his Democratic candidacy for Nolan County Commissioner Precinct 2.
Nolan County voters will have the opportunity to cast their votes on the early voting dates of Feb. 18 through Feb. 28, 2014. They may also vote on March 4, 2014 in the primary election. Muncy would sincerely appreciate your vote in the upcoming election.
He is a lifelong resident of Nolan County, with a family history of grandfather Buster Adams and father Billy Muncy both serving as County Commissioners in Precinct 4.

Bids open for hunter well field project

During Tuesday's meeting of the City Commission, a bid was awarded to drill water wells at the Hunter Well Field.
Three bids were received and opened at the meeting; all three included a base bid and three alternate bids. The bids were reviewed during the meeting by John Voller with Enprotec/Hibbs and Todd.
A recommendation was given to award the bid to Texas Water and Soil, which offered the low base bid of $763,602. The three alternate bids came in at $138,442; $144,250; and $172,442.

DPS increases DWI enforcement during holidays

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will increase DWI patrols for a 21-day period that includes both the Christmas and New Year holidays. From Dec. 13 to Jan. 2, DPS troopers will focus DWI patrols in high-risk locations at times when alcohol-related crashes are most frequent.

Fronie E. “Sissy” Scroggins, 86, of Sweetwater, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brian Brownlow officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday at Bishop Cemetery in Lipan, Texas with Ervin Lehrman officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Mary Frances “Pan” McKay, 85, of Henrietta, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Henrietta, Texas with Rev. Randy Osborn, pastor officiating. Burial was Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013 in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Arp, Texas under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta, Texas.

Leola Hartgraves Clark

Leola Hartgraves Clark, age 91, of Sweetwater, passed away into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013. 
Her body was cremated. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.  
Leola was born on Aug. 24, 1922, in Maryneal, Texas to Ernest Ray and Edna
(Bowden) Hartgraves. She was a homemaker and a member of Avondale Baptist Church. She married Travis Clark on Dec. 23, 1959, in New Mexico.
