We have often heard and read about the âLiving Godâ.Â Joshua in chapter 3 verse 9 states: âHe is among us.âÂ David in I Samuel 17 states that âHe is not to be defiedâ, and in Psalm 42:2 we find that Davidâs soul thirsted for the living God.Â Other references to the âLiving Godâ include Psalm 84:2; Isaiah 37:17; Jeremiah 23:36; Acts 14:15;
The monthly meeting of the Republican Women of West Texas will be at the Pioneer Museum, located at 610 E. Third Street at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Guest speaker will be Jane Cansino of Lubbock. Refreshments will be served at 6 p.m. All interested parties are invited to attend.
One man was arrested during the early evening hours of last Friday as a result of a search warrant being served by officers of the Sweetwater Police Department. The raid took place at a residence on West Eighth Street in Sweetwater, according to Sweetwater Chief of Police Brian Frieda.
Another man was detained and released during the raid. Narcotics and cash were recovered from the scene.
According to Chief Frieda, right at 50 grams of narcotics were found, which will classify the case as a first degree felony.
Hoyt House Assisted Living celebrated a new beginning for the staff and community by hosting an open house designed as a special opportunity to bring residents, families, employees, volunteers and the surrounding communities together to enjoy the celebration. The event took place on Thursday, beginning with a ribbon cutting.
Attendees of Hoyt Houseâs new beginningsâ celebration were able to tour the assisted living residence and meet the staff members. Refreshments, hors dâoeuvres and entertainment was provided.
Scott and Carla Lambert of Sweetwater had lunch with Cody Canada at Schlotzskyâs in Sweetwater on Thursday, as he was headed to Lubbock to Blue Light. The Lamberts say he is a "nice guy."
Canada was born in Pampa, Texas in 1976.
The statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel in Texas is now $3.24, which is eight cents more than one week ago, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.Â Drivers in the Lone Star State are paying an average of 18 cents less than the national average which is now $3.42.Â People in Dallas are paying the most on average at $3.30, and people in El Paso are paying the least at $2.99.Â Sweetwater drivers are currently paying $3.29 per gallon.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 38 calls for service, issued two citations and made no arrests on Jan. 30, 2013.
The SPD received 18, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 10 calls for service, served no civil papers and made two arrests on Jan. 30, 2013.

James Edward Reich, 54, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. James, better known as Jim, was born April 17, 1958 in Sweetwater. He was a 1976 graduate of Sweetwater High School and attended Angelo State University, graduating in 1980. He was employed by Bob Parr at the former Trend Furniture. After working for Knox Supply Company a short time, he moved to Orlando, Fla. to work for the La Z Boy Corporation. During his 19 years with La Z Boy, the franchise grew to five stores with Jim managing the warehousing, deliveries and claims departments.
