The Ninth Annual Hoops Dreams and Goals 2013 competition is set for March 22 at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.

A Nolan County Grand Jury indicted eight people this week, with five of those indictments sealed.
Alfonso Arevalo, 31, of Sweetwater, was indicted for burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit aggravated robbery, a first degree felony.
Sweetwater Chief of Police Brian Frieda stated that at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Jan. 10, the Sweetwater Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at the 1700 block of Pease. While en route to the location, officers received a call from Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital stating that an individual in the Emergency Room had been shot.
If you're looking for a great way to usher in the spring season this weekend, your search can come to an end. The 2013 Nolan County United Way (NCUW) Golf Tournament will be held this Saturday at the Sweetwater Country Club with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
This year's tournament will honor the life and service of the late Charles Roberson, who passed away in July 2012. He served on the NCUW board of directors for more than ten years and was also involved in many community activities and organizations.
Kenneth Acorn, 23 was arrested for possession of controlled substance in a drug free zone and warrants on Tuesday.
The Sweetwater Police Department received a complaint about loud music at the car wash around 12:30 p.m. Upon arrival, police arrested Acorn, as he had an outstanding warrant, and in the process, retrieved suspected crack cocaine, marijuana and money from Acornâs vehicle.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 41 calls for service, issued no citations and made two arrests on Mar. 18, 2013.

Nelson Alfred Dressler, age 95, a longtime Sweetwater resident, died Monday, March 18, 2013 at Snyder Healthcare Center after a lengthy illness.
Services for Mr. Dressler will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home with Dr. Tommy Culwell officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories in Sweetwater, under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

SATURDAY, MARCH 23
The home field has been kind to Sweetwaterâs base-ball team this year, and the Mustangs took advantage of those familiar surroundings to win their District 4-3A opener on Tuesday against Midland Greenwood.
Despite being out-hit 7-6, Sweetwater prevailed 4-3 as the Mustangs (9-10 overall) scratched out a 4-1 lead through five innings and held on in improving their home record to 7-1.
Sweetwater, which never trailed, used its small-ball abilities to take a 2-0 lead in the second inning and added single tallies in the fourth and fifth innings.
After a district-opening win over Snyder four days earlier, the Sweetwater softball team had another chance to make a big statement in the early 4-3A race when it hosted Midland Greenwood on Tuesday.
And the Lady Mustangs looked ready to do that over the first five innings as senior pitcher Maty Montgomery pitched a shutout while Sweetwater opened a 2-0 lead at the Jerry Collins Complex.
