High Sky Childrenâs Ranch and the West Texas Childrenâs Advocacy Center have once again partnered to host the Eighth Annual West Texas Child Abuse Awareness Family FunFair in Sweetwater. The FunFair will be held at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex on Wednesday, April 10, from 4-6:30 p.m. The Time of Remembrance will start at 6 p.m. and organizers ask that everybody stay for the ceremony honoring children who have been victims of child abuse.
The Nolan County Ministerial Alliance will host an Easter Sunday sunrise service at 7 a.m. at the Mustang Bowl.
This event began as a dream of Jere Lawrence to provide an opportunity for the Christian community to gather to celebrate Christâs resurrection. Everyone from Sweetwater and the surrounding area is invited to come worship this Sunday at the Mustang Bowl in Sweetwater.
Connie Palacios (right) was recently honored for her years of service on the Nolan County Crime Stoppers Board.
Palacios served as a Crime Stoppers board member for 12 years and has decided to resign her position.
She was presented with a plaque and a bouquet of roses by Co-Coordinator Angie Collier (left), from the Nolan County Crime Stoppers Board.
A man was airlifted from Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital on Wednesday afternoon after a wreck on Interstate 20 near mile marker 243 in Sweetwater.
According to emergency authorities, the man hit a light pole in the center median, bringing it down. The driver was not wearing a helmet.
The Nolan County Hospital District board approved the purchase of two items during their meeting on Monday evening held at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH).
Rosa Best, the Chief Nursing Officer at RPMH, presented both of the items to the board.
One Stryker birthing bed will now be purchased and will replace the current product, which is used by laboring mothers. The purchase totals $17,092 and comes in under the budgeted price.
A couple reports were discussed by Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District) Assistant Superintendent Kathy Smartt during the March meeting of the SISD Board of Trustees.
The Data Validation Monitoring for Discipline Report was approved, in which the district took part in the report due to results in the recent PEIMS (Public Education Information Management System) report, which reflected action from two years ago.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 52 calls for service, issued no citations and made two arrests on Mar. 26, 2013.
The SPD received 19, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had eight calls for service, served three civil papers and made one arrest on Mar. 26, 2013.

Frances Foster âFrankieâ Smith of North Little Rock Arkansas died on March 17, 2013 from the effects of a stroke suffered days before her death. She had lived for the past five years with Alzheimerâs disease in Foxridge Assisted Living Center in North Little Rock, Ark.
Frankie was born in El Dorado, Ark. on Feb. 7, 1925, to James L. and Beulah Mae Foster. She was predeceased by her two brothers, James âBuddyâ Foster and Billy Ray Foster and is survived by her sister, Betty Fay Foster Cathey.

Maty Montgomery throws a pitch for Sweetwater during Tuesdayâs district game against Monahans.
Montgomery gave up just four hits and also had an RBI single at the plate as the Lady Mustangs won, 6-2, to move into a three-way tie for the District 4-3A lead with Snyder and Greenwood.
Sweet-water goes at 0-4 Wylie at 4:30 p.m. today to wrap up the first half of district play. Also, Sweetwaterâs baseball team â which is off to a 3-0 start in district after beating Monahans 11-1 on Tuesday â will be playing at 2-1 Wylie with its game also set for 4:30 p.m.
