Lydia Mae Harris, age 93, of Sweetwater, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Truman Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Palava Cemetery.
Lydia was born on Sept. 17, 1919 in Alba, Texas to Charlie N. and Thedia (Scogin) Davis. She moved in 1929 with her folks to Palava, Texas until 1939 when they moved to Sweetwater at the beginning of World War II.
The Wood Bat Classic at Newman Park which ended Saturday produced both good news and bad news for the host team.
The good news: Sweet-water went 3-1, equalling the best record among the six teams in the event. Wall and Ranger Junior Collegeâ€™s JV were also 3-1. However, a total of three players were injured at the Classic during the weekend as well.
After an 8-7 win Thurs-day over Clyde, Sweetwater (7-4) beat Wall 9-4 Friday. On Saturday, it defeated Pampa 6-2 in the morning before losing 7-4 in its final game to Ranger Junior Col-legeâ€™s JV team.
Today will be very warm, as we'll see a high near 84 and mostly sunny skies. Expect breezy conditions with winds from the west-southwest at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Tonight, temperatures will drop as a cold front comes through. We'll see partly cloudy skies with a low around 39. Winds from the west at 15 to 20 mph will become northern at 25 to 30 mph. Gusts could be as high as 35 mph.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 45 calls for service, issued four citations and made two arrests on Feb. 28, 2013.
The SPD received 20, 911 calls.

AUSTIN â€” A week earlier, they ruled the court at the Region II-A, Division II basketball tournament in Abilene, winning both of their games by 18 points.
But Highlandâ€™s Lady Hornets met their match Friday in Austin when they faced Saltillo, whose Lady Lions lived up to their No. 1 ranking â€” winning 41-19 in the Class 1A, Division II semifinals to end the greatest Highland girls basketball season ever.
Funeral services for Joyce Goodnight, 62, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Fourth and Elm Church of Christ with Mike Crowley officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Goodnight died Friday, March 1, 2013 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
The Highland girls basketball team's magnificent season came to an end Friday when the Lady Hornets lost to No. 1-ranked Saltillo, 41-19, in the semifinals of the state tournament held in Austin. Highland, with players like Hannah Allen (pictured here in Friday's game), finished the season with a 31-5 record while advancing to the state tournament for the first time in history. The Republican Women of West Texas will meet Tuesday, March 5, 2013. The meeting will be held at the Pioneer City-County Museum at 601 E. Third Street in Sweetwater.
Refreshments will be served at 6 p.m. and the meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.
Sweetwater Chief of Police, Brian Frieda will beÂ the speaker. The public is invited to attend.
An update on the hospital renovations was given as part of the Administrator's report during the Nolan County Hospital District board meeting on Monday night.
David White with McKinstry, the company heading up with projects, was joined by four representatives at the meeting to offer an outlook on the current project of the new doctors' offices, as well as look back on the results from the previous work of the new medical /surgical unit.
