The Sweetwater Fire Department has been testing their pumpers at the city pool.
"We are required to test the pumpers at various times throughout the year to make sure the trucks pump what they are supposed to," said Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden.
A Lady Mustang Bas-ketball Camp will be held June 3-6 at the middle school gym on 305 Lamar Street. The camp is for students who have completed grades 2-8.
The camp sessions will be from 9 a.m. to noon.
The cost of $35 includes a T-shirt. Pre-registration is appreciated.
A concession stand will be available. The campâ€™s goal is to improve playersâ€™ skills through instruction in individual skills and fun team competitions.
Sweetwaterâ€™s Sportsman Park will play host today to the opening game of a best-of-3 regional baseball final between Bangs and Wall.
The teams will play Game 1 at 6:30 p.m. today, then relocate to Hunter Field in Abilene (Hardin-Simmons University) to play Game 2 at 5 p.m. Saturday. Game 3, if necessary, would begin 30 minutes following Game 2.
Bangs (25-8) finished as District 6-2A champion this season while Wall (32-4) was the third-place team in the same district. The Hawks lost both games in district play this season to the Dragons by scores of 7-6 and 13-3.

2 Portobello mushrooms, stemmed, caps halved

Texas Midwest Community Network Executive Director Nicki Harle has announced plans to step down by the end of the year. The organization is seeking a new executive and has posted information about the position and application process on the Texas Midwest website, www.texasmidwest.org.
TMCN is a regional non-profit organization of communities working together to accomplish what one community can not do alone. The mission of TMCN is to promote a regional approach to provide the resources and awareness for its members to achieve economic and community growth.

On May 13, the county-wide burn ban was lifted by the Nolan County Commissioners. At Monday morningâ€™s meeting, approval was given for the burn ban to remain lifted, due to the recent rains that have fallen in the area.
Also during the meeting, the recommendation of Erica Caballero as the City-County Library Director was approved. Elsie Pierce, the chairperson of the library board, offered some information about the application process.
Graveside services for Alfred Carroll Kellams, 87, of Sweetwater, will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013, at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene with Rev. Raymond Payne officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Kellams died Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Sweetwater Healthcare Center. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
