Raul Martinez Rodriguez, 28, of Roscoe, was arrested on Saturday evening after leading police officers on a pursuit after he allegedly fired shots at two people in a vehicle in Roscoe.
According to Roscoe Chief of Police Felix Pantoja, the Roscoe Police Department received a call about shots fired around 10:45 p.m. on Fourth and Cypress in Roscoe. Officers responded to the scene, but could not find the suspect, who was said to be driving a white Silverado.
Kelsi Crosson, a 2013 Sweetwater High School gradu-ate, received the John Riddlehoover Memorial Spirit Award on Saturday at the inaugural Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star Festival volleyball match that was played at Abilene Wylie High School.
The award, voted by the all-stars, is given to a player and cheerleader who exemplifies courage, sacrifice and selflessness. Crosson will continue her volleyball career at Cisco Junior College.

Kyle Lambert, 2013 senior at Sweetwater High School who will be attending Texas Tech University in the fall, majoring in Animal Science, received the Texas Tech Alumni Scholarship for the upcoming academic year. Lambert is pictured with Texas Tech Alumni Robert Whitteker receiving his award.
Texas State Technical College West Texas is now accepting students into the Associates Degree Nursing (ADN) program this Fall for the first time. Traditionally, the college has had only two entrance periods per year. Due to of the high demand for qualified nurses, TSTC West Texas will take in additional cohort of 20 students this fall.
Cicada shells are usually a sign that summer has arrived and that the insects have burst onto our summer scene in Texas, but rarely does one get the chance to witness the process as it happens. This particular cicada was attached to the side of a Sweetwater home as it molted.
Shown, the cicada is next to its abandoned shell, now split and fully empty. The cicada will eventually adopt different colors once its new body hardens.

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has one puppy available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a male pit mix puppy.
According to Sweetwaterâ€™s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
Funeral services for Winnie Thelma Martindale, 95, of Sweetwater, will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at First Christian Church with Rev. Curtis Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Pyron Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
