Sweetwater will have four Little League all-star baseball teams competing in District 5 tournaments that begin today and continue through July 5.
Sweetwaterâ€™s 9-10 year-old Little League all-stars are Harrison Foster, Logan Cornutt, Hector Medina, Cooper Hrbacek, Ricky Dela-paz, Jacob Roden, Jonathan Gallegos, Ector Martinez Jr., Braxton Gomez, Ethan Cortez, Skyler Painter and Jacob Cantu. Rodney Foster will serve as manager of the team with Ray Cornutt and Andrew Medina serving as assistant coaches.
Shown are some of the students who attended Mustang Baseball Camps last week at Sportsmanâ€™s Park which were open to all students entering grades 1-9.
This yearâ€™s camps were led by Sweetwater High School baseball coaches Roland Herrera, Tony Cortez and Chad Copeland.
All of the students were taught baseball fundamentals and had pictures taken on the final day of the camp with their T-shirts. Herrera, Cortez and Copeland are pictured on the back row. The student campers who attended this year included the following:
Sweetwater, led by pitcher James Clift, had nine players earn All-Big Country baseball recognition from the Abilene Reporter-News.
Clift was one of 10 pitch-ers on the All-Big Country team, which included five starters and five, including Clift, in the â€śbullpen.â€ť
Led by Kelsi Crosson, who was named to the team as a reserve outfielder, a total of five Sweetwater players received All-Big Country softball recognition from the Abilene Reporter-News.
Crosson, a four-sport athlete who will play volleyball next year at Cisco Junior College, was named one of three reserve outfielders after batting .444 with 10 doubles and three home runs for the Lady Mustangs, who won their first playoff game in school history this season after finishing as District 4-3A runnerup. She also had 28 RBIs, scored 27 runs and stole 11 bases.

Sweetwater quarterback Kaegan Jeffrey â€” who threw for 2,089 yards and 19 touchdowns as a sophomore â€” and Blackwell running back Jayden Jones â€” who ran for 1,910 yards and 30 touchdowns as a junior â€” have been chosen by the magazine as the preseason Offensive MVPs in District 4-3A and District 8, Division II Six-Man, respectively.

Tenaska announced that it will discontinue its development efforts for two advanced coal-fueled electric generating facilities designed to capture carbon dioxide and will focus its efforts on ongoing development of natural gas-fueled and renewable facilities to customers across the nation.
This summer, the Sweetwater campus of TSTC (Texas State Technical College) West Texas, located at 300 Homer K. Taylor Drive, will be offering Microsoft Office Short Courses from June 24 until July 26. All of the courses will be offered in the Pevehouse Building in Room 210.
