With 10.3 percent of Texans living with diabetes, knowing how to live with and manage the disease is crucial. Identifying the need for community support on this important health matter, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) will be focusing on diabetes care as the topic of the next Lunch and Learn Seminar on Wednesday, July 10.
Many lined the streets of Downtown Roscoe to enjoy the Independence Day parade on Saturday. Many entered the parade including Kelly Etheredge and her daughters, Sydny, Alex and Davis.

The Blackwell Volunteer Fire Department will be having its annual Fourth of July parade and barbecue. The parade will start at 5 p.m. and the BBQ will start at 5:30 p.m.
In October of 2012, Katelyn Ausborn â€”Â who was five years old at the time â€”Â was diagnosed with Wilmsâ€™ tumor. She was taken to Covenant Children's Hospital in Lubbock where an expert team removed the tumor.
Wilms' tumor is a rare kidney cancer that primarily affects children. Also known as nephroblastoma, Wilms' tumor is the most common cancer of the kidneys in children. Wilms' tumor most often affects children ages 3 to 4 and becomes much less common after age 5.
Wilms' tumor most often occurs in just one kidney, though it can sometimes be found in both kidneys at the same time.
A Sweetwater man was attacked on Thursday afternoon by a swarm of honey bees, according to his daughter.
Johnny Cassady, 78, was at a friend's house on Thursday afternoon about 4 p.m. on the 1400 block of James Street. "He was in his friend's back yard in her shed, when he moved a box that happened to be housing a honey bee nest, said Cassady's daughter, Janet Patty. "The bees just swarmed him."
"My dad said that he tried to swat the bees off with his hat. Then he fell to the ground and started rolling around, but they just kept singing," said Patty.
Several entered pleas during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings this past week.
Dana Rhoades was named the Teacher of the Year at Sweetwater Intermediate School (SIS) for the 2012-2013 school year. She is the fourth and fifth grade Special Education - Life Skills teacher.
Rhoades attended Wayland Baptist University and Angelo State University, in which she earned her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood - Grade 4 Generalist, Grades 4 through 8 Generalist, and all-level Special Education.
She is a member and officer of the Kappa Delta Pi, an education honor society, as well as the Alpha Chi Honor Society. This past fall, she earned the SIS Bucket Filler award.
