Roscoe Elementary School will host the 2013 Meet the Teacher night on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m.
The event will begin in the cafeteria where the annual Title I meeting is conducted and faculty and staff will be introduced. Student class assignments will be posted at the cafeteria as well.
Students and parents will be dismissed from the cafeteria to visit their classes and meet their teachers.Â Families are asked to bring all school supplies that evening as well.
The Nolan County Commissioners were given a report on the courthouse faĂ§ade during the afternoon portion of Mondayâ€™s meeting by Turner Construction.
On the north side of the building, the scaffolding has been erected. The entrance on the north side will be accessible to everyone until the west side stairs are completed.
Eight girls recently participated in the Water Works Underwater LEGO Robotics Camp at Roscoe Collegiate High School. The students built fully submersible robots.
Using a great variety of Lego pieces, their robots become increasingly complex and able to complete sophisticated underwater tasks. In the process, the students gained knowledge in several areas of science, engineering and technology.
A couple of action items were presented during the afternoon portion of the Nolan County Commissioners meeting held Monday at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Approval was given to enter into an amended interlocal agreement with the City of Sweetwater for easement on the Hunter Well Field. Sweetwater City Manager Eddie Brown was in attendance to make the presentation.
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department is urging people to take precautions to reduce the risk of contracting West Nile virus, a mosquito-borne illness.

After spending time with three different NFL teams a year ago, former Sweetwater High School football star Joseph Banyard is hoping to find a home this season with the Minnesota Vikings.
Banyard is scheduled to report to the Vikingsâ€™ training camp today, which will be at Minnesota State University in Mankato, and begins practicing Friday. He hopes to still be around after the Vikingsâ€™ current 90-man roster is cut to the 53-player limit for the teamâ€™s season opener on Sept. 8.

The closure of westbound Interstate 20 will once again be postponed on the US 84 overpass that is currently under construction and the lanes will remain open. Closure was scheduled to allow crews to pour the deck of the new bridge. The closure and work will be rescheduled for a later date. The entire project is expected to be completed by early fall.
Roscoe Collegiate Junior High and High School will be having laptop orientation on Friday, Aug. 9, from 1-3 p.m. for all eighth grade students and any new ninth through twelfth grade students.
Seventh through twelfth grade students may pick up their registration packets and schedules Monday, July 29, through Wednesday, July 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
