Work continues in Sweetwater Business Park

Shown is the expansion of Crest Pumping Technologies. They are building a new regional yard for their Chile Shale and Permian Basin East operation. 
Crest Pumping Technologies works in the “down hole” cement process for conventional and hydraulic fractured wells. Crest Pumping Technologies purchased 15 acres in the Sweetwater Business Park located on Interstate 20 near the west entrance to Sweetwater from Select Energy.

Potential roads discussed at county meeting

During Monday's meeting of the Nolan County Commissioners, a presentation was made by Kaleb Brewer with Carter Surveying and Mapping regarding county roads within an industrial park.
The park is located six and a half miles east of Sweetwater toward Interstate 20, near County Road 220. These initial steps are the first phase of a larger subdivision for the industrial park.

Digging up a good book at the library

Many children dove into the Oceans of Fun show flippers first where puppets came alive as a pirate boy, rainbow fish and a beautiful mermaid told stories and sang songs about life under the seas at the County-City Library on Tuesday. A magical gold fish multiplied before the children's eyes, then a dancing skeleton came alive while bone moving music was played. A big treasure was found and the children had have a big splash learning about the ocean while digging in the books.

County burn ban remains lifted

After the much-needed rainfall in the area, Nolan County Judge Tim Fambrough lifted the county-wide burn ban on Wednesday, July 17. And during the county commissioners' meeting held on Monday morning, approval was given to leave the burn ban off.
The burn ban will be considered again by the commissioners at their next regular meeting. During Monday's meeting, Fambrough stated that he was "pleased" that the burn ban could remain lifted.

Pleas entered in District Court

Several entered pleas this week during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings.
Sylvia Martinez Castillo pleaded guilty to forgery, a state jail felony. She was sentenced to five years of community supervision and will have to pay a $1,000 fine, $343 in court costs and $500 in attorney's fees. She will also have to pay restitution to the following: $31,141.75 to Paul Hanneman of Sweetwater; $3,396.24 to Texas National Bank of Sweetwater; and $3,056.88 to First Financial Bank of Sweetwater. She will also have to serve 120 hours of community service.

Jonathan Michael Smith-Aguilar

Jonathan Michael Smith-Aguilar, age 21, of Midland passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 at an Odessa hospital after an auto accident. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013 at McCoy Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater. Interment will follow at the Sweetwater Cemetery. Mike Ensminger and Sarah Cardiel will officiate.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 25, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Local family attends, volunteers at Abbott for Governor event

Kimberly McKinney, President of The Republican Women of West Texas, and family, attended the Abbott for Governor event in Midland on Wednesday. Michallah McKinney, who will be attending Hardin Simmons University in the fall, is currently an intern for Attorney General Greg Abbott. Michallah McKinney also served as a page for Representative Susan King in the House of Representatives. Her younger sister, Ashleigh McKinney worked as a volunteer at the Abbott for Governor event. She greeted people at the door and handed out Abbott for Governor stickers.

TSTC West Texas Fall 2013 registration currently underway

The first day of classes (Aug. 26) will be here soon. Texas State Technical College West Texas representatives encourage prospective students to drop by a Texas State Technical College West Texas campus today to make sure students get the class they want. "It's important for financial aid purposes and books purchases that you register as soon as possible."
TSTC West Texas has a variety of programs, which in just a semester or two, can lead to top-paying career possibilities. Apply online at westtexas.tstc.edu, then come by the TSTC campus to register for classes.

Croan joins Sweetwater Reporter staff

Andrea Croan joined the Sweetwater Reporter's circulation department back in March, just after the Rattlesnake Round-Up and has been a welcome addition to the newspaper family. Born and raised in Sweetwater, Croan lives here with her four children — Racheal, 16; Dylan, 15; Katelyn, 8; and William, 2.
