Sweetwater Animal Control currently has eight puppies available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a female basset mix, female chihuahua mix, female healer mix, female mixed breed dog, male healer mix and three male mixed breed dogs.
According to Sweetwaterâ€™s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The Kiwanis Club of Sweetwater will be holding its first annual Family Fun Co-Ed Softball Tournament on Saturday, August 3.
The tournament will be a round robin followed by single elimination, with a guarantee of four games. The tournament will be limited to eight teams divided into two divisions.
The first division will include 4 competitive teams (league or tournament teams). This division will allow for unlimited home runs, with each home run hit costing $1, and there will not be a run rule implemented per inning.
On Tuesday afternoon, a disoriented driver drove their vehicle into one of the front windows at McDorman's Furniture on E. Broadway in Sweetwater.
The driver was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The Nolan County Commissioners met on Monday afternoon to discuss the major construction projects of the county with Turner Construction.
The agenda outlined that information would be received on the guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for the Nolan County Jail and Sheriff's Offices, in which discussion would be held and possible action would be taken on this particular aspect of the project.

One tree on the 1000 block of W. Oklahoma was uprooted and fell on a home, causing damage to a fence and roof.

The WASP Museum in Sweetwater recently received some special visitors when Wally Funk visited the museum with two of her flight students, Patty Herbel and Christi Yong.
"I just wanted to bring the girls with me so that we could visit the museum," said Funk.
Wally Funk has been flying professionally since 1957 and she has accumulated over 18,000 hours of flying time. "I have known about 120 WASPs in my 55 years of flying, so this is like homecoming for me," she said.
Services for Linn David Taylor, 51, of New Braunfels, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at Highland Heights United Methodist Church in Sweetwater with Rev. Don Boren officiating. Interment will follow at the Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Taylor died on Saturday, July 27, 2013, as a result of a motorcycle accident at University Hospital in San Antonio.

One person was killed in a one vehicle crash at 10:30 a.m. on Monday in Nolan County.Â The crash occurred on State Highway 70, 1.7 miles south of Mile Post 324, east of Sweetwater.
