TSTC West Texas will graduate 110 students on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Abilene Civic Center. ¬†
The Digital Arts program is graduating its very first cohort of artists, which includes Jarrad Hamilton who opened his first show at the Center for Contemporary Arts during Artwalk last week. Kathryn Black, an outstanding Welding Technology graduate is a non-traditional student and has climbed to the top of her class. She has ambitions of working as an underwater welder. ¬†

Four county employees were recognized during Monday morning's county commissioners meeting held at the Nolan County Courthouse.
In attendance to receive their awards were Jerry Watts, who celebrated 10 years with the county as Assistant Jail Administrator, along with county auditor Judy Kasper for her 15 years of service.
Library Circulation Clerk Eloisa Hernandez and Coliseum worker Pablo Sosa were also honored, as they celebrated 5 and 10 years, respectively, serving the county in their positions.
The City of Sweetwater officially made an appointment for the position of City Secretary/City Comptroller during Tuesday's meeting of the Sweetwater City Commission.
Approval was given for Patty Torres to fill the role, which will be effective this Friday. Following the resignation from Carolyn Lawrence a year ago, Torres has served in an interim role while also continuing her other duties.
Funeral services for Virgil Wayne "Jack" Stacy, 84, of Sweetwater will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with a 3 p.m. graveside service at Nancy Smith Cemetery near Glen Rose, Texas. Pastor Eric Von Atzigen will officiate with funeral services under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Stacy died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at his home.
This precious woman became an Angel in Heaven.¬† God gave her wings on Aug. 14, 2013.
She was born in Cortez, Colo. on Sept. 20, 1955.¬† She was raised in Mozelle, TX and graduated from Mozelle High School in 1973.
She married her best friend Michael ‚ÄúBlue‚ÄĚ Bredemeyer on Jan. 19, 1978.¬† They celebrated 35 years of the most loving and nurturing marriage, full of fun and laughter.¬†
She was the mother of two children, and the Mimi of two grandchildren.¬† She was a homemaker and a Doe of The Sweetwater Elks Lodge.¬† She also spent years volunteering for the Sweetwater Little League.
Our beloved mother and grandmother, Faye Hanes, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Aug. 12, 2013.
Faye was born Feb. 15, 1921, on the family farm outside Wingate, Texas to Oscar and Mae Howard. Faye married Aubrey A. Hanes and together raised three children at Welch, Texas. Faye spent her life working and serving others ‚ÄĒ she loved to sew, cook and garden. Faye was a member of South Plains Church of Christ where she participated in Silvertones Senior Adults and Pillow Ministry for Hospitalized Children.
