CHILDRESS — Back-to-school means back-to-traffic, and as students return to the classroom this fall, the Texas Department of Transportation calls on drivers to “Drive Friendly. Drive Safe.” to reduce crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists.

Sweetwater Strong Red Run!

Sweetwater ISD held a Red Run on Monday morning to help start the school year off strong. Faculty and staff members, as well as students and community members were invited to the 8 a.m. run.
All who attended showed their school spirit by wearing red and white. Dye stations were set up along the route to throw red powder at the runners, covering them head to toe by the end of the race.

Sweetwater Heart Walk set for September 14

It's time to lace up those running shoes for a good cause--the 2013 Sweetwater Heart Walk.
The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 14 at the Sweetwater Mustang track field. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the walk starting at 9 a.m.
The local Heart Walk, a fundraising initiative which supports the American Heart Association (AHA), has been taking place for over 20 years. Two years ago, the walk was changed from its spring schedule to become a fall venue, according to event coordinator Jerrie Gee.

West Texas Association of SWCDS Meeting August 27 in Sweetwater

TEMPLE, TX — State Representative Susan King will be the featured speaker at the West Texas Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (WTASWCDS) meeting August 27. The meeting will be held at the Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater with registration starting at 9 a.m.
“Beginning at 10:00 a.m. and prior to the business session, soil and water conservation district directors attending the meeting will be given a tour of the National Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) WWII Museum” said Johnny Ussery, President of the WTASWCDS.

Mustangs host final scrimmage vs. L-View

Shane Mobley says he al-ready knows who his start-ers will be on Aug. 30 when Sweetwater opens the 2013 football season by traveling to Eastland.
But the second-year Mus-tang head coach said today’s final preseason scrimmage vs. San Angelo Lake View will help to decide who to have on the field when those players need a break.
“We want them to have the mentality to be able to play in the fourth quarter,” he said. “We’re looking at some players that will give our starters a breather. They need as much experi-ence as possible.”
