The Sweetwater Youth Football League (SYFL) Cheerleaders will be holding a Spirit Night fundraiser at the Sweetwater Taco Bell on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. When you order, please mention Spirit Night and a percentage of your bill will be given to the SYFL cheerleaders.
There will be no pre-sale tickets for the Friday game against Eastland. Tickets may be purchased at the gate. The prices will be $5 for adults and $3 for students at the gate. The ball game will be played in Eastland with kick-off at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 235-8601 ext. 116
There is a Sweetwater Little League Board Meeting that will be held tonight, August 28, at the Sweetwater Middle School in the Choir Room at 8:30 p.m. This is to elect new officers for the upcoming 2014 season. If you are wanting to take an active roll, you are invited to attend tonight to discuss league matters.
A Nolan County Grand Jury recently indicted 11 people. Eight of those indictments were sealed. The following cases were true-billed:
Steven Bernard Renfro was indicted for possession of a controlled substance, namely tetrahydrocannabinol, a state jail felony. According to court documents, Renfro possessed less than one gram of the controlled substance on Jan. 10, 2013. His bond was set at $5,000.
Christopher Ray Medina was indicted for burglary of a habitation, a second degree felony. His bond was set at $25,000.
Buzzi Unicem USA, Maryneal Cement Plant will be holding a community event that they have named the first annual âHelp the Heroes: Buzzi Bash.â
This event will benefit the five volunteer fire departments in Nolan County (Maryneal, Nolan, Blackwell, Roscoe and Lake Sweetwater) with all of the proceeds divided equally among the departments.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2479 Commander, Lionel Mendez, purchased five Mustang fundraiser booklets from Sweetwater Junior Varsity Mustang football player, Branson Guelker.
These purchased cards will in turn be donated to individuals during weekly drawings held during Saturday night dances, at Sweetwater's VFW Post 2479.
Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Frieda has confirmed that one of their officers was injured last week in an accident.
Officer Kurt Huckabee was injured last Friday evening when he lost control of his motorcycle while returning from the White Buffalo Bikefest in Snyder.
Huckabee was off duty and riding his own motorcycle with a group of bikers when apparently he hit a wet spot in the road, causing loss of control. He was flown by Native Air to University Medical Center in Lubbock where he is currently in satisfactory condition.
At the Nolan County commissioners meeting on Monday morning, discussion was held and action was taken toward adding a criminal investigator position in the sheriff's office.
The position would include salary and benefits which would be reimbursed to the county out of the sheriff's drug forfeiture fund for a particular period of time and then re-evaluated after that time. As stated by Nolan County Sheriff David Warren, a dire need has arisen to add the position, in which different options for funding were presented that would not affect tax payers.
