Texas Education Agency Division of Career and Technical Education announces nondiscrimination

Roscoe ISD offers career and technical education programs in Agriculture Science, Business and Health Information Technology. Admission to these programs is based on individual course requirements.
It is the policy of Roscoe ISD not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex or handicap in its vocational programs, services or activities as required by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.

Broadway Baptist Church hosting Vacation Bible School this week

Broadway Baptist Church is holding their Vacation Bible School (VBS) program this week called "Movin' On Up." Children age 5 through completed fifth grade are invited to join in on the fun, which includes music, games, crafts, snacks and a Bible lesson.
The program runs each night this week from 6 to 8 p.m. and will conclude on Friday evening. Call the church office at 235-2730 for more information.

Events planned at SHS

Many events are planned at Sweetwater High School as the beginning of the coming school year nears.
• Sweetwater High School will begin practices for all 2013 cross country athletes on Monday, Aug. 12 at the high school gym, according to SHS cross country coach Christi Adams. The first-week practices will begin at 8 a.m., according to Adams. The 2013 cross country meet schedule has not yet been released.
• SHS registration for new students is Tuesday, Aug. 13 and Wednesday, Aug. 14 from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
• Wallace Registration is Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Chamber Coffee to take place at Edward Jones Investments

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Chamber Coffee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Edward Jones Investments - Jason S. Blake, Financial Advisor, located at 301 E. Broadway in Sweetwater.
Edward D. Jones and Company, now known as Edward Jones, was founded by Edward D. "Ed" Jones, Sr. in St. Louis, MO in 1922.

Felton D. Henry

August 6, 2013

Felton D. Henry was born Dec. 22, 1926 and raised in Sweetwater. He passed away on July 24, 2013 in Stuart, Fla. with those who loved him most at his bedside. He was a graduate of Newman High School, Class of ’44. As a young man he was a participating Mason and in July 4th parades he was the one in the little cars running figure eights making the kids laugh and smile.

Sweetwater ISD to host first Sweetwater Strong Red Run

On Monday, Aug. 19, all employees of Sweetwater Independent School District will participate in the first ever Sweetwater Strong RED Run. "This will be a one-of-a-kind experience that is not about speed, but about celebrating positive energy with your co-workers, families and fans," said Sweetwater ISD Assistant Superintendent Kathy Smartt.

Century plant blooms in Sweetwater

A very rare plant is finally flourishing within Sweetwater.
Mamie Thomas of Sweetwater is the owner of a century plant. The plant has been on her property for the past 45 years and only blooms once at the end of its lifespan.
For the past month, the century plant has been in bloom and producing flowers. Thomas said that on average, the plant has grown about three feet per day and has now grown up to over 30 feet tall.
However, now that the blooming has taken place, the century plant is slowly starting to die.
