Roscoe Collegiate ISD conducts a gifted program for students with above average potential in academic and creative-productive thinking skills areas in grades K-12. This gifted education program is designed to challenge students to accelerate above and beyond the regular school curriculum.
A small group of teenagers in Burleson, Texas, came together for a DiscipleNow weekend in early 1990. They came seeking God and little did they know how powerfully He was about to move. On Saturday night their hearts were penetrated like never before, when they became broken before God and burdened for their friends. Compelled to pray, they drove to three different schools that night. Not knowing exactly what to do, they went to the school flagpoles and prayed for their friends, schools and leaders.
Sweetwater Mayor Greg Wortham presented Royce Porter â€” successful songwriter and recording artist and also a Sweetwater High School graduate â€” with a key to the city on Friday at the Texas Theatre after the Mustangâ€™s Homecoming football game.

Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) has been busy the last couple of years with renovations and expansion projects to meet the growing healthcare needs of Nolan County. The hospital will kick-off then next phase of its growth plans on Tuesday with a groundbreaking ceremony for a new cardiac rehabilitation and wellness facility. "We're in a busy and exciting era here at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital," said Donna Boatright, administrator of RPMH. "Our construction projects have been the result of the growing and evolving healthcare needs of Nolan County.

Phanette Baumann, 86, of Sweetwater, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Mrs. Baumann was cremated.
Baumann was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Loraine. She married Lester Baumann. Phanette was a graduate of Loraine High School and Harris Nursing School in Fort Worth with a Registered Nursing Degree. She moved to Sweetwater from Fort Worth in February of 2007. She and her husband owned a summer home in Colorado and enjoyed spending time there.
She is survived by several cousins.
Obdulia Heredia Lopez, age 82, of Sweetwater, went unto her Saviorâ€™s arms at sunset on Sept. 21, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lionzo Soria officiating, assisted by Al Williams. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
