The Class of 1968 is celebrating their 45th reunion and will also host the 2013 All-Class Reunion on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the WASP Museum at the old Avenger Field, west of Sweetwater. There will also be an all classes reception on Friday night at the Texas Theater, a golf tournament at the Sweetwater County Club on Saturday morning and Sunday morning church services at Newman Park according to Marilyn Kuss, reunion coordinator.
Shown (at right) is Mica Parker, the newest member of the Nolan County Hospital District board of directors.
Parker's appointment was approved by the board during their meeting held Thursday, Aug. 29, and she will serve as the District 1 trustee.
Administering the oath of office to Parker is board president Steve Holcomb.
Ticket pre-sales for Friday's Sweetwater Mustang football game against Andrews will be on sale beginning today through Friday.
The prices will be $5 for adults and $3 for students. Prices will be the same at the gate.
The ball game will be played in Andrews with kick-off at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 235-8601 ext. 116.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) began a major project to reconstruct 1.3 miles of Lamar Street (US Highway 70-Business) in Sweetwater this week.
The project will completely rehabilitate Lamar Street, which is one of the communityâ€™s major streets, from I-20 to Avenue B by rebuilding the road base, laying new asphalt and building concrete intersections to improve drainage. The project also includes new sidewalks, curbs, gutters, retaining walls and upgraded signals.

Roscoe JV will play at Irion County, 6 p.m.
Highland JV will host Sterling City, 6 p.m.
Blackwell JV will play at Westbrook, 7 p.m.
Sweetwater 7th and 8th grade teams host Wylie at 5 and 6:15 p.m., respectively.

Sweetwater varsity plays at Andrews, 7:30 p.m.
Roscoe varsity hosts Irion County, 7:30 p.m.

Marquees Jenkins is Football Player of the Week for Sweetwater.
Jenkins rushed for 149 yards, including a 7-yard TD run, vs. Eastland and also had five tackles and a pass hurry on defense.
Sweetwaterâ€™s throwing-passing combination of Max Gomez and Michael Lawrence hooked up for a total of three touchdowns, but Sweetwaterâ€™s JV lost to Eastland 46-24 in its sea-son opener this past Thurs-day at Mustang Bowl.

Two blood drives will take place in Sweetwater on Thursday from noon until 6 p.m. One bloodmobile will be parked at the Lions Club building at 1501 Lamar. The other bloodmobile will be parked in the First Financial Bank parking lot. First Financial Bank has graciously agreed to allow bloodmobile parking at their location while the Nolan County Courthouse is undergoing renovation.
Texas State Technical College West Texas received a $100,000 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission to design oil field-related truck driving and safety programs. Funds will allow TSTC West Texas to purchase the equipment necessary to build a mock oil field for training truck operators. Students will receive a Commercial Driverâ€™s License (CDL), safety certifications and gain actual hands-on experience working with vacuum truck operations in the oil industry.
