State Representative Susan King hosted a town hall meeting at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater on Tuesday afternoon. King briefly went over the latest legislative session in Austin and touched on subjects concerning education, TxDOT, water, second amendment rights and the upcoming constitutional amendments (Proposition 6) that will be brought to voters in November. Attendees of the meeting asked questions about CSCOPE and possible funding for an outpatient dialysis center in Sweetwater.
Approval was given toward the purchase of a new server during Monday morning's Nolan County commissioners' meeting, which will help begin the transition for a new financial software upgrade for the county auditor and treasurer.
The server will be purchased from Your Way Computer Tech Team at the cost of around $4,828. The software upgrade was first approved during a special-called meeting on September 3, and initial steps toward the transition could begin anytime after October 1.
The Nolan County Hospital District (NCHD) board of directors held two meetings on Monday night at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH).
The first meeting, briefly held prior to the board's regular monthly meeting, resulted in the approval of the 2014 tax rate and operating budget for the new fiscal year.
Two special-called meetings were held to give the public a chance to speak on the issues on September 10 and 13. The minutes for those meetings, along with the minutes from last month's regular meeting, were all approved during the regular meeting for the month.
Charles T. Sharrock, age 78, of Sweetwater, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Ward Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Palava Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013.
Ramal E. Young, age 90, of Sweetwater, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013 in Odessa.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at Garden of Memories with Rev. Tommy Touchstone officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Ramal was born on Nov. 27, 1922 in Goldthwaite, Texas to Vinnie (Sullivan) and Wallace Geddes. She married Joe H. Young on Feb. 10, 1941 in Chandler, Arizona. She retired from AT&T. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
NOLAN COUNTY â€“ Construction on the US 84 overpass at westbound I-20 in Nolan County is now complete. The bridge has been opened to traffic. Drivers are urged to use caution in the area today as crews finish removing signs and barricades.

County Commissioners held a meeting on Monday afternoon with representatives of Turner Construction and Wiginton Hooker Jeffry Architects (WHJ) to discuss the continuing construction on the Nolan County Courthouse and new jail/Sheriff's office.

Each year, more than three million students from all over the world participate in See You at the Pole.
A proposal for a modernization project for the Buzzi Unicem plant in Maryneal was presented to two groups on Monday--the Nolan County Commissioners and the board of directors of the Nolan County Hospital District (NCHD).
The presentation offered a recap of the previous project in Maryneal, an update on the industry as a whole, a group overview of Buzzi Unicem USA, the current status of the plant, and the proposed project.
