It's time to lace up those running shoes for a good cause--the 2013 Sweetwater Heart Walk.
The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 14 at the Sweetwater Mustang track field. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the walk starting at 9 a.m.
The local Heart Walk, a fundraising initiative which supports the American Heart Association (AHA), has been taking place for over 20 years. Two years ago, the walk was changed from its spring schedule to become a fall venue, according to event coordinator Jerrie Gee.
TEMPLE, TX â€” State Representative Susan King will be the featured speaker at the West Texas Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (WTASWCDS) meeting August 27. The meeting will be held at the Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater with registration starting at 9 a.m.
â€śBeginning at 10:00 a.m. and prior to the business session, soil and water conservation district directors attending the meeting will be given a tour of the National Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) WWII Museumâ€ť said Johnny Ussery, President of the WTASWCDS.
Shane Mobley says he al-ready knows who his start-ers will be on Aug. 30 when Sweetwater opens the 2013 football season by traveling to Eastland.
But the second-year Mus-tang head coach said todayâ€™s final preseason scrimmage vs. San Angelo Lake View will help to decide who to have on the field when those players need a break.
â€śWe want them to have the mentality to be able to play in the fourth quarter,â€ť he said. â€śWeâ€™re looking at some players that will give our starters a breather. They need as much experi-ence as possible.â€ť

The supply list for SISD has been updated. Notice that hand sanitizer and wipes have been removed from the list. Please do not send these products to school with your child. Children should be monitored when using products that contain alcohol because it poses a possible health risk to them. In order to provide your child with a safe and healthy learning environment, automatic hand sanitizer dispensers have been installed in multiple locations on every campus and their use will be monitored by teachers.

The four cousins came together and recently held their second annual lemonade stand on Morris Avenue, raising money to benefit the Gaylord's Pantry in Sweetwater.
They are the grandchildren of Tere and Vicki Lawrence.
WTG Fuels, Inc. hosted a ribbon cutting Tuesday morning at the new Gas Card Site, located at 2400 W. Broadway. The site is open to the public and offers highway diesel, red diesel and unleaded fuels. If you have a credit card or a bank card you can pump your fuel at this location at anytime, day or night.
Gas Card sites are located all over west Texas, up to Amarillo, down to San Angelo, and into New Mexico.
Sweetwater High School and San Angelo Lakeview High School will be participating in a scrimmage this Thursday, with all proceeds being donated to the THSCEF (Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation) Benevolence Fund. This day has become known as "Our Day to Shine."
During Monday's special-called meeting of the county commissioners, the first public hearing was held on the proposed tax rate for 2013-2014.
The total proposed rate stands at .507552, which is the combination of the general fund's M&O (maintenance and operations) at .382542, the general fund I&S (interest and sinking) at .064469, and the farm to market fund at .060541. No input, however, was heard on the item.
Prior to the close of the public hearing, approval was given to hold the second public hearing on the proposed tax rate at the meeting on Monday, August 26.
Ken M. Pierce, age 80, died August 21, 2013 at his home in Sweetwater. He was born to Jessie and Mattie Allen Pierce on July 6, 1933 in Altus, Oklahoma. Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Sweetwater Cemetery with Cody Paty officiating. McCoy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
