The second annual Teen Book Club will meet at the County-City Library Monday, July 22 at 12:30 p.m. for a pizza party. The book selected is â€śSpeakâ€ť by Laurie Halse Anderson. The Teen Book Club will watch the movie â€śSpeakâ€ť based off the book they selected. Call 235-4978 for more information.
Mustang Moms will be holding weekly meetings on Mondays at 6 p.m. in the Sweetwater High School fieldhouse. Every mom is needed and every mom is welcome.
A volleyball camp will be held July 22-25 at the Sweetwater Middle School gym for students who have completed grades 3-8. The camp will be from held from 9-11:45 a.m. each day. The cost includes a T-shirt. Pre-registration is appreciated. A concession stand will be available. The goal is to improve playersâ€™ skills in volleyball for the upcoming season with instruction through games and fun team competitions.
A Mustang Football Camp will be held July 22-25 at Mustang Bowl from 7:30-10:30 a.m. daily for students entering grades 3-9. All campers will receive individual instruction from members of the Mustang coaching staff. The camp will place emphasis on skills and drills and will also have both punt, pass and kick instruction and competitions. There will be refreshments, T-shirts and certificates. A local military mother is doing her part to make sure that our servicemen and women are being taken care of on the battlefield.
Minnie Cortez made a presentation to the Sweetwater Kiwanis Club during their weekly meeting held Wednesday at Broadway Baptist Church. Her daughter, Ruby Montoya, is a Sweetwater native who has toured twice in Iraq and is currently deployed in Afghanistan.
The anticipated boom from Cline Shale oil development is on the horizon, but with the expected growth, one particular venture is working to be fully prepared in one specific aspect.
Recently, Turn Key Solutions and Larson Ventures held ribbon cutting ceremonies in Snyder and Sweetwater to showcase their Custom Touch Villages. The location in Snyder was completed in record time within 60 to 90 days, and according to Dave Ferguson with Turn Key Solutions, he anticipates the same timing for the Sweetwater site.
A Mustang Golf Camp took place this past week at Sweetwater Country Club for ages 6 and up. Instructors were Sarah Cumbie and Ashley Timm. Sweetwater High School volleyball coaches have released the Lady Mustangs' two-a-day workout schedule for the 2013 season.
Practices at the SHS gym will begin on Aug. 5, just one week before the season opens with a match at Grape Creek on Aug. 12. Scrimmages will be at San Angelo Central on Aug. 9 and at Frenship on Aug. 10. There are just three home matches â€” on Aug. 15 vs. Abilene Cooper, on Sept. 10 vs. Lamesa and on Sept. 24 vs. Levelland â€” before district play starts Sept. 28, when the Lady Mustangs go to Monahans.

Sweetwater High School head football coach Shane Mobley has released the Mustangs' two-a-day workout schedule for the 2013 season.
Workouts at the SHS practice field begin on Aug. 5 with all players in shorts. The first day to work out in pads will be Friday, Aug. 9.
Sweetwater's first scrimmage will be held Aug. 16 at Wichita Falls Hirschi, followed by the team's final scrimmage Thursday, Aug. 22 vs. San Angelo Lake View at Mustang Bowl. After the scrimmage, fans are urged to remain in order to "Meet the Mustangs."
