Driver crashes into store window

July 31, 2013

On Tuesday afternoon, a disoriented driver drove their vehicle into one of the front windows at McDorman's Furniture on E. Broadway in Sweetwater.
The driver was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

County Commissioners discuss jail at meeting

The Nolan County Commissioners met on Monday afternoon to discuss the major construction projects of the county with Turner Construction.
The agenda outlined that information would be received on the guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for the Nolan County Jail and Sheriff's Offices, in which discussion would be held and possible action would be taken on this particular aspect of the project.

Damaging winds in Sweetwater

The small amount of rain that Sweetwater received on Monday brought with it high winds, causing damage around Sweetwater.
One tree on the 1000 block of W. Oklahoma was uprooted and fell on a home, causing damage to a fence and roof.

Wally Funk visits WASP Museum

The WASP Museum in Sweetwater recently received some special visitors when Wally Funk visited the museum with two of her flight students, Patty Herbel and Christi Yong.
"I just wanted to bring the girls with me so that we could visit the museum," said Funk.
Wally Funk has been flying professionally since 1957 and she has accumulated over 18,000 hours of flying time. "I have known about 120 WASPs in my 55 years of flying, so this is like homecoming for me," she said.

Linn David Taylor

Services for Linn David Taylor, 51, of New Braunfels, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at Highland Heights United Methodist Church in Sweetwater with Rev. Don Boren officiating. Interment will follow at the Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Taylor died on Saturday, July 27, 2013, as a result of a motorcycle accident at University Hospital in San Antonio.

Two major wrecks Monday, one fatal

One person was killed in a one vehicle crash at 10:30 a.m. on Monday in Nolan County.  The crash occurred on State Highway 70, 1.7 miles south of Mile Post 324, east of Sweetwater.

USDA announces policy change for CRP emergency grazing

Nolan County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director, Dennis Cumbie announced that the Texas FSA State Committee revised a Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) emergency grazing policy that limited eligibility on acres grazed in previous fiscal years.
Based on a revised policy decision made by the Texas FSA State Committee, CRP acres grazed during fiscal year 2011 or 2012 will be considered eligible for emergency grazing if NRCS verifies, on a case-by-case basis, that the conservation cover will sustain grazing.
