Sweetwater ISD to host first Sweetwater Strong Red Run

On Monday, Aug. 19, all employees of Sweetwater Independent School District will participate in the first ever Sweetwater Strong RED Run. "This will be a one-of-a-kind experience that is not about speed, but about celebrating positive energy with your co-workers, families and fans," said Sweetwater ISD Assistant Superintendent Kathy Smartt.

Final two Microsoft short courses begin Monday at TSTC

July 18, 2013

The final two classes of the Microsoft Office Short courses--offered by the Sweetwater campus of TSTC (Texas State Technical College) West Texas this summer--will be held during the week of July 22 through 26.
Both courses will be taught on campus, located at 300 Homer K. Taylor Drive, in the Pevehouse Building in Room 210.
An intermediate/advanced course for Microsoft Excel 2010--which is an eight-hour course held in the mornings--will be taught Monday, July 22 and Wednesday, July 24.

Library hosts summer reading program party

The County-City Library ended its Summer Reading Program with a scavenger hunt and ice cream sundae party.

SEED gives update on Cline Shale Alliance

The SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) Board of Directors met on Monday morning for their regular monthly meeting at the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce, with updates given on the two entities that are getting area businesses and communities prepared for and informed on the Cline Shale oil development.

TSTC SGA to host fundraiser

July 18, 2013

The TSTC (Texas State Technical College) Student Government Association (SGA) will be having a fundraiser on Friday, July 19 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Chicken Express, located at 1035 N. Judge Ely in Abilene.
Chicken Express is donating a percentage of all sales to TSTC SGA and they will also be taking donations. The money collected is to help West, Texas.

Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Gloria M. Perez, 79, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Charles Okonkwo officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
A Rosary will be said by Josie and Pete Castillo on Monday evening, July 22, 2013, at 7 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Perez died Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.

A few seats still available for BLOSSOM event

All Texas State Technical College West Texas locations (Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood and Sweetwater) will be planting the seeds of science, technology, engineering and math with its BLOSSOM: STEM in Bloom! program.
BLOSSOM will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23 in Sweetwater and Abilene and from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, in Breckenridge and Brownwood. BLOSSOM is for girls ages 13 and older.

City in Stage I plan of water conservation, drought contingency

Sweetwater City Manager Eddie Brown presented a report during the recent regular meeting of the Sweetwater City Commission.
Brown stated that the next meeting, to be held July 23, will be an important meeting where commissioners will review requests for proposals and qualifications and award contracts for financial advisors, bond counsel and engineers for the Hunter Well Field Construction Project.
