The inaugural meeting of the West Texas Energy Consortium (WTEC) was held at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum on the campus of Howard College in Big Spring.Â The conference was opened by WTxEC Chairman Victor G. Carrillo, former Taylor County Judge and Commissioner of the Railroad Commission of Texas.Â
Several Sweetwater bas-ketball teams had to cancel scheduled games Thursday at local and area tourna-ments due to icy weather conditions. The same was true for the Highland and Roscoe boys and girls bas-ketball teams, who were to begin play at Highlandâ€™s an-nual Hilltop Classic.
Blackwellâ€™s two varsity teams were the only ones from Nolan County to play as the weather took its toll around the state.
Also, the Graham-Shal-lowater quarterfinal playoff at Sweetwaterâ€™s Mustang Bowl was moved from 7 p.m. today to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Nolan County voters will have the opportunity to cast their votes on the early voting dates of February 18, 2014 thru February 28, 2014. They may also opt to vote in the primary election on March 4, 2014. Doug would sincerely appreciate your vote in this upcoming election.
Jeanne Palafox Wells is announcing her candidacy for Nolan County Treasurer.
Wells has served as County Treasurer since Â March 1, 2013, when she was appointed by the Nolan County Commissioners to fill the rest of the unexpired term vacated by former county treasurer Gayle Biggerstaff.
Prior to her appointment, she worked in the County Auditor's office for six years as an Assistant Auditor. In this role, she audited various county offices, including the Treasurer's office.Â

Many area schools have cancelled classes for Friday as roads began to ice over on Thursday, causing many wrecks in Nolan County and the surrounding areas.
School closings include Highland ISD, Blackwell CISD, Roscoe ISD and Sweetwater ISD. Roby CISD and Rotan ISD will begin classes at 10 a.m. but no buses will run.
Sweetwater Goodfellows distribution has been postponed until Monday, Dec. 9, due to the bad weather.
Recipients need to come at there scheduled times Monday between 9-11 a.m. at The Lamar Street Baptist Church Gymnasium.
The Christmas party will be that afternoon at 3:45 p.m.
