The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 58 calls for service, issued four citations and made four arrests on April 29, 2013.

The SPD received 21, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Criminal mischief — 1600 block of E. Broadway.
• Burglary of a building — 700 block of E. Third.

Arrested by SPD:
• James Raney, 23 — Burglary of a building/warrants.
• Jean Raven, 25 — Warrants.
• Female juvenile — Warrants.
• Female juvenile — Warrants.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 10 calls for service, five civil papers served and made one arrest on April 29, 2013.

Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 91 and winds from the south-southwest at 15 to 20 mph. In the afternoon, the winds will decrease to 5 to 10 mph. After 2 p.m. we'll see a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms also.
After 8 p.m., the precipitation chances will increase to 40%. Otherwise, expect mostly cloudy conditions with a low around 41. A cold front will change the winds to the north from 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph.

SHS teams set playoffs

The Sweetwater High School baseball and softball teams have announced the dates, times and locations for their playoff games this week.
Sweetwater's baseball team (15-13) has decided on a best-of-3 bi-district series with Fabens at Crane High School. Game 1 will be Friday at 5 p.m., followed by the second game on Saturday at 2 p.m. Game 3, if needed, starts 30 minutes after the second game ends. The Sweetwater-Fabens winner advances to the area playoffs against Pampa next week.

Nolan County Forward Planning Committee meets

The Nolan County Forward Planning Committee met on Friday at the Sweetwater Country Club, which brought community leaders from various fields together to discuss the impact and consequences from the incoming Cline Shale oil development.

RPMH to host Chamber Coffee

April 30, 2013

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly chamber coffee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, located at 200 E. Arizona in Sweetwater.
The hospital is governed by a board of directors. Donna Boatright is the administrator. The hospital provides healthcare for the communities of Nolan County. RPMH was built and founded in 1976. It was founded as a hospital district in 1989.

Hailey Dunn ‘Missing’ billboard comes down

Four “Missing” billboard signs first went up in January 2011, according to Lamar Advertising, just a couple of weeks after Hailey Dunn was reported missing.
The signs were taken down on Monday, after news that Hailey’s remains were positively identified on Friday.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 172 calls for service, issued 11 citations and made 13 arrests from April 26-28, 2013.

The SPD received 119, 911 calls.

• Criminal mischief — 1200 block of Ragland.
• Theft — 800 block of E. Avenue D.
• Consumption of alcohol by a minor — 1600 block of Cypress.
• Runaway — 700 block of W. Sixth.
• Information only — Sweetwater area.
• Forgery of financial institution — 200 block of Chester.
• Assault — 100 block of Oak.

BHS student named ‘Best in Texas’

BreAnne Richardson, FCCLA member at Blackwell High School, was recently named the Best of Texas Outstanding Special Achievement Student by the Texas Career and Technology Council (TCTC).
