Come deep into the Amazon Rainforest as the kids go on expedition with the One True God at Avondale Baptist Church's Club VBS: Jungle Jaunt.
Avondale Baptist Church invites all children age five years through grade five for their annual Club VBS. The kids will jaunt through adventure-filled Bible stories, create cool rainforest crafts, enjoy rainforest rations and ride the recreation rapids.
At the ninth annual WASP Homecoming on Saturday, the National WASP WWII Museum will host one of the most historically significant aircraft of World War II. Douglas C-47 Skytrain, U. S. Army Air Force Serial No. 42-32832, will grace the sky above Avenger Field and later be available for inspection outside the WASP Museum Hangar. Alongside the Skytrain will be a number of Stearman and Fairchild World War II primary trainers as well as the famous North American AT-6 “Texan” advanced trainer.
A junior high basketball camp will be held June 3-6 at the Roscoe gym for boys and girls entering grades 6-9. Sessions will be from 6-8 p.m. each day. The cost is $30. Call Kelly Jo Sexton, camp facilitator, at (254) 784-0991.
Roscoe Plowboy Foot-ball Camp will be June 10-11 at the Roscoe football field. This is for boys and girls who are entering grades 2-9. Sessions will be from 6-8 p.m. on both days. The cost is $20. The camp will be taught by the Roscoe football staff. Call Jonathan Haseloff at 766-3844 or 721-7644.

Tonight, we have a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms; otherwise it will be mostly cloudy with a low around 68 and winds from the southeast at 20 to 25 mph. Gusts could be up to 35 mph, but after midnight winds will decrease to 15 to 20 mph.

Ingredients:
1 lb. zucchini or squash (about 2 medium-sized)
1/4 cup shredded Parmesan (heaping)
1/4 cup Panko breadcrumbs (heaping)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
freshly ground pepper, to taste
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line two baking sheets with foil and spray lightly with vegetable spray.
Slice zucchini or squash into 1/4 inch-thick rounds. Toss rounds with oil, coating well.
In a wide bowl or plate, combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan, salt and pepper.
The Sweetwater Municipal Pool is opening this weekend. The City of Sweetwater has announced that the price for admission has risen to $2 per person to enter the pool.
"I have worked at the pool for 17 years and this is our first price increase," said pool manager Larry Hopple. "The city regrets having to increase the prices, but maintaining the pool is very expensive."
The pool will be open Saturday at 1 p.m. and will be open Sunday and Monday for Memorial Day. The pool will be closed the rest of the week and re-open the following Saturday and follow normal schedule.
Three board members were sworn into office at the meeting of the SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Board of Trustees held on Monday night.
Jenny Cherry is not only the newest member of the board, but the youngest female to ever serve on the Sweetwater school board. She has filled the District 5 seat vacated by Nancy Johnson, who decided not to run for re-election.
Also, Genevieve Mayes will continue to serve as the District 1 member, while Becky Jimenez will once again represent District 2 on the school board.
Today marks the 100th birthday for the American Cancer Society. From 9-11 p.m. tonight, in front of Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, the word "hope" will be spelled out in lighted luminaries to honor cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battle with cancer.

Located at 2301 Lamar, Rattlers is your one stop pool hall, saloon and game room. Owner/operator Steven Sellers of Amarillo opened Rattlers in Sweetwater on Jan. 26, 2013. Sellers moved to Sweetwater in February 2012 and originally planned to set up shop in the old Blockbuster building. Instead, Goodwill took over the Broadway location and Sellers had the old Holiday Bowl building remodeled. "It was the right thing to do, for Goodwill and for me," Sellers said of the move.
