Sweetwaterâ€™s softball and baseball teams go to Snyder for key District 4-3A games when they return from a seven-day break today.
The action begins with Sweetwater and Snyder battling for the outright 4-3A lead in the softball race at 5 p.m. Both have 4-1 records and a one-game lead over two teams after the first half of district play. Right behind are Greenwood and Big Spring, each at 3-2. Sweetwater beat Snyder, 11-8, when the teams began district play on March 15 at Sweetwater. The Lady Mus-tangsâ€™ only district loss has been against Greenwood.
Kaleb Hoover of Sweet-water has been named to the Abilene Reporter-News All-Big Country boys bas-ketball team for Class 3A, while his Sweetwater teammate Dylan Bennett received honorable mention to the Class 3A boys team.
Hoover, a 6-1 junior for-ward, also made the team as a sophomore. He averaged 16.4 points and eight rebounds in earning first team all-district honors. Hoover as a sophomore was named the district newcomer of the year. This season, he shot 41 percent from the field and 61 percent at the line after getting a late start due to an injury.
Friday's forecast is shaping up to be mostly sunny with a high near 79 and southern winds at 10 to 15 mph. Gusts could be as high as 20 mph.
Tonight, expect partly cloudy skies with a low around 54. Winds will be from the southeast at 15 to 20 mph.
Expect warm temperatures this weekend, with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the low 60s. Winds will be around 15 mph, but could gust up to 30 mph throughout Saturday and Sunday.

The West Texas Childrenâ€™s Advocacy Center is fast approaching their Annual Child Abuse Awareness Banquet. This year the banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex and will have a guest speaker. Each year the WTCAC hosts the Child Abuse Awareness Banquet in an effort to raise the funds needed to support child abuse victims in the counties of Nolan, Scurry Mitchell, Fisher and Borden.
The mission of West Texas Childrenâ€™s Advocacy Center is to provide intervention and victim services to child abuse victims and their non-offending family members.
Members of Sweetwater's Woman's Forum were hard at work on Wednesday â€” which was Library Tag Day â€”Â collecting money to be donated to the County-City Library.
The group collected close to $6,000 which will help fund the ebook program and summer reading programs this year. Donations can still be made to the library at 206 Elm Street, Sweetwater, TX 79556 or by calling 325-235-4978.

The Workforce Solu-tions of West Central Texas Board recently recognized 13 regional child care providers at their regular board meeting as having achieved Texas Rising Star (TRS) Provider status within the past year. A TRS Provider serves Texas Workforce Commission-subsidized children and voluntarily offers quality care that exceeds the State's Minimum Child Care Licensing Standards in areas such as health and safety, group size, child/staff ratios, caregiver training and age-appropriate curricula and activities.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued no citations and made one arrest on April 2, 2013.

Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s junior varsity softball team, pictured here, returns to action at approximately 7 p.m. Friday.
The team will play at Snyder immediately after the varsity game at 5 p.m., with both games to be played at Snyder. The varsity baseball team will also play at Snyder on Friday, with the contest set to begin at 7 p.m., while the JV baseball team hosts Snyder at noon Saturday.
