SHS students make All-Region Band

On Dec. 14, six students from the Sweetwater High School band traveled to Idalou High School for the All-Region Band auditions and all six students made the band.

Applications for conservation programs being accepted at Nolan County NRCS office

USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) District Conservationist Mandi Ligon announces applications for funding opportunities with the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program (WHIP) are currently being accepted at the NRCS offices located at 103 West Florida.

Lady Mustangs to begin Anson tournament today

Sweetwater's weekend weather

Today will be sunny with a high near 55. Winds will be from the west-southwest around 5 mph, becoming calm in the morning.
Expect mostly clear conditions tonight, with a low around 34 and south-southeast winds at 5 to 10 mph. After midnight, winds will shift to the southwest.
For the weekend, we'll see a high near 56 on Saturday, although a cold front will come in to bring Sunday's high to 42. Weekend lows will be in the low to upper 20s, and winds throughout the weekend will shift from the south-southwest to the north on Sunday, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

City issues notice for proper brush and debris disposal

The placing of junk, brush and/or debris in the alley and/or street right of way is littering and subject to a fine not to exceed $200 in addition to refuse surcharges to be applied.

DPS continues increase in DWI enforcement during the holidays

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will increase DWI patrols for a 21-day period that includes both the Christmas and New Year holidays. It began Dec. 13, and until Jan. 2, DPS troopers will focus DWI patrols in high-risk locations at times when alcohol-related crashes are most frequent.

TNB donates to Goodfellows

Flu on the rise in Texas; DSHS encourages vaccination, prevention

With flu season ramping up in Texas, the Texas Department of State Health Services reminds people who haven’t gotten a flu shot yet this season not to put it off any longer.
The level of flu-like illness is currently classified as “high” in Texas, and medical providers are seeing an increase in flu in multiple parts of the state. Getting vaccinated is the best way for people to protect themselves and their families from the flu during the holiday season, when there is typically an increase in flu cases.

Church donates gifts for 40 angels

First Presbyterian Church of Sweetwater bought presents for 40 Angels from Amy’s Angel Tree at Wal-Mart, helping children served by the West Texas Children’s Advocacy Center.

My sister Judy, 69, passed away Dec. 24, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, TX. As my grandson Andrew said, she was just in time to share a birthday cake with JESUS. She was born in Tulsa, Okla. on Aug. 6, 1944, to her parents Floyd and Armilla Wilson. She lived most of her life in Texas.
