SISD raises funds for United Way

December 2, 2013

Sweetwater ISD recently completed their campaign for the Nolan County United Way.
The Sweetwater High School Cheerleaders donated $100 from their Kiss a Pig Contest. Pictured is SHS cheerleader Caroline Brennan holding the pig and SHS teacher Martha Aleman kissing the pig.
The cheerleaders are under the leadership of Kassidi Seaton and Candy Mercer.

Billie Sue Irving

Services for Billie Sue Irving, 73, of Sweetwater, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Mount Rose Baptist Church with Rev. Tommie J. Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
She died on Nov. 29, 2013, in Sweetwater.
She was born on Sept. 22, 1940, in Snyder. She married Arnold Irving. She was a member of Mount Rose Baptist Church, and she worked as a nurse aide.

Dorothy Helen Whisenant-Broughton

Dorothy Helen Whisenant-Broughton, 79 of Converse, LA passed from this world in the fellowship of her family and friends on Wednesday, Nov. 27. A native of Roscoe, Texas, “Dotty” spent the majority of her life in Sweetwater and Abilene, Texas. The eldest daughter of Sam and Lena Whisenant, of Roscoe, she is survived by her sister Mrs.

Richard Armstrong

Richard Armstrong, 77, of Dublin, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 28, 1936, in Snyder, Texas, to Robert Lee Armstrong and Susan Elizabeth Mimms Armstrong. Richard married Carolyn Watson July 10, 1955, in Sweetwater, Texas.

Ervin Schraer

Ervin John Schraer, our devoted, strong and faithful Dad, a lifelong farmer and member of this community, passed away on Nov. 29, 2013, three days after his 92nd birthday.
A rosary service took place at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena, TX with Deacon Stanley Lange officiating.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, also at St. Joseph, with Father Ariel Lagunilla celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery at Rowena, TX.

Donations needed at Nolan County Welfare Association

With the holiday season fast approaching, the Nolan County Welfare Association (NCWA) wants to let the community know that their doors are open.
Rut (pronounced "root") Crowley, director of the NCWA, stated that they are able to give individuals one bag of food per month, stocked with one of each item that is in the food pantry. First-time recipients must fill out some paperwork prior to receiving the donation.

SMS students to begin food drive

November 29, 2013

Sweetwater Middle School Student Council will start a canned food drive for their campus food pantry on Monday, Dec. 2.
Anyone in the community can bring in nonperishable food items that will help SMS families. The campus food pantry will open in January.
