National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) is an annual observance to highlight the importance of protecting infants from vaccine-preventable diseases and celebrate the achievements of immunization programs in promoting healthy communities. This year’s NIIW is April 20-27. Infants are particularly vulnerable to infectious diseases; that is why it is critical to protect them through immunizations. Each day, nearly 12,000 babies are born in the United States who will need to be immunized against 14-vaccine-preventable diseases before age two.
Though short-lived, the burn ban for Nolan County was reinstated during the county commissioners meeting held on Monday at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Nolan County Judge Tim Fambrough had ordered the lifting of the ban on Friday, April 12, although its reinstatement was listed on Monday's agenda. However, in a statement released after the meeting on Monday afternoon, the emergency burn ban and fireworks ban will remain in effect for 90 days unless significant rainfall is received.
On Saturday, the Sweetwater Middle School Robotics Program took five teams to compete in the GEAR Robotics Competition at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. The competition officially began on March 23, when the theme of the competition was revealed. This year's theme was Dr. Roboto. It focused on how robots are used in the medical field.
To compete, each team designed a robot, programmed it to complete simulated medical missions and write an engineering essay explaining how they approached the challenge. Each team also came up with a team name and t-shirt design for the competition. Â
