Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s track teams competed at Snyder this past week.The varsity girls had 55 points for a third-place finish, while the varsity boys had 44 points and placed fifth.
The boysâ€™ 800 relay of Bobby Soto, Kaleb Hoover, Isaiah McGee and Nick Nemir was second (1:34.4); the 400 relay of Nemir, McGee, Kris Duran and Marquees Jenkins was fourth (45.5); the sprint medley of Soto, Duran, Hoover and Quentin Wetsel was fifth; and the mile relay of Jenkins, McGee, Soto and Hoover placed fourth.

Two blood drives will take place in Sweetwater on Thursday, March 14. One drive will take place at the Nolan County Courthouse and the other at the Lions Club building from noon until 6 p.m.
Cancer awareness was recognized at the Wood Bat Classic baseball tournament on Friday at Newman Park prior to Sweetwater's game against Wall.
Several local cancer survivors gathered on the infield for a brief ceremony where each of them threw a baseball to one of the Sweetwater or Wall players.
Among those who participated were Sweetwater player Gabriel Melendez and his grandmother, Mary Palma.
Jeanne Wells (right) was sworn into office on Monday morning as the new Nolan County Treasurer.
Wells was appointed by the county commissioners to fill the rest of the unexpired term vacated by former county treasurer Gayle Biggerstaff.
The oath of office was administered by 32nd Judicial District Judge Glen Harrison (left).
The Sweetwater FFA meat judging team placed eighth out of 41 teams at the San Antonio contest.
Team members are Cody Chapman, Sean Morrow, Mackensey Hayes and Kyle Lambert.
Gary Hollis, age 62, of Sweetwater, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
His body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Jeanie Williams of Saint James UMC in Abilene officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Lydia Mae Harris, age 93, of Sweetwater, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Truman Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Palava Cemetery.
Lydia was born on Sept. 17, 1919 in Alba, Texas to Charlie N. and Thedia (Scogin) Davis. She moved in 1929 with her folks to Palava, Texas until 1939 when they moved to Sweetwater at the beginning of World War II.
The Wood Bat Classic at Newman Park which ended Saturday produced both good news and bad news for the host team.
The good news: Sweet-water went 3-1, equalling the best record among the six teams in the event. Wall and Ranger Junior Collegeâ€™s JV were also 3-1. However, a total of three players were injured at the Classic during the weekend as well.
After an 8-7 win Thurs-day over Clyde, Sweetwater (7-4) beat Wall 9-4 Friday. On Saturday, it defeated Pampa 6-2 in the morning before losing 7-4 in its final game to Ranger Junior Col-legeâ€™s JV team.
