Alice Velez from the Diabetic Outreach Program at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until noon to check blood glucose and answer any questions one may have regarding diabetes. Pamphlets and materials will be available.
Graveside services for Stanley D. Phillips, Sr., 73, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Chris Stephens officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Phillips died Sunday, Jan. 13, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for Harriet Ruth Monde, 81, of Sweetwater, will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. David Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home.
Monde died Saturday, Jan. 12, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.

Sweetwaterâ€™s senior def-ensive lineman on Sunday was a second-team selection by the Abilene Reporter-News to its all-Big Country Super Team. He previously was a second team pick by the Reporter-News to its Class 3A-5A all-Big Country football team.
Joseph Banyard, a former Sweetwater High School star who is now a running back for the National Football Leagueâ€™s Minnesota Vikings, made remarks to the current SHS players when he spoke at Thursdayâ€™s Fall Sports Banquet held at the Nolan County Coliseum.
Banyard signed with the Vikings in November after also spending time this season with the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints.
Cruz Torres Rivera, age 79, of Sweetwater passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel, recited by Lupe Medellin.
Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Okonkwo officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.
Lois Barber, age 94, of Sweetwater, formerly of Sacramento, Calif., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab.
Her wishes were to be cremated. Her family will hold a service at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Lois was born Aug. 19, 1918, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, to William M and Pearl (Spangler) Brady. She married Victor Barber on Aug. 28, 1935 in Kissimmee Park, Fla. She was a devoted homemaker and a Christian.
Long-time Sweetwater elementary school teacher, Verona Jim Younger, 99, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012.

Sweetwater came into its District 4-3A opener with a seven-game winning streak yet likely facing its toughest challenge of the season.
And from the start, it was an uphill battle as Monahans led 8-1 before Sweetwater hit his first field goal at the 2:25 mark of the opening quarter, en route to a 63-43 win. Monahans (17-3 overall) never let the Mustangs get closer than four points after its quick start at Sweetwaterâ€™s gym.
