WTEC inaugural conference slated for December

The West Texas Energy Consortium (“Consortium”) announced that it will hold its Inaugural Conference in Big Spring on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013. The Consortium is a collaborative forum for business and industry representatives and partners in education, workforce, housing, local government and the non-profit sector, within the various counties comprising the West Central Texas, Concho Valley and Permian Basin Regions to further the development and economic opportunities associated with the unconventional resource shale plays in the area.

Many attend open houses

Doug Sitter State Farm accepting toiletry donations

November 19, 2013

Doug Sitter State Farm is taking toiletry donations again this year for the West Texas Children’s Advocacy Center. 
What the center does this time of year is give all the families they help throughout the year toiletries just before Christmas in addition to putting up the Angel Tree at Wal-Mart. Donations can be dropped off at 208 Lamar Street.
Those wishing to donate cash may do so and Doug Sitter State Farm will buy the toiletry items to be donated. All donations are appreciated.

Five nominated to NCCAD board

At a special-called meeting of the Nolan County Commissioners on Monday morning, approval was given to nominate five members to the board of directors for the Nolan County Central Appraisal District.
The five members nominated were Jerry Rozzlle, Randall Smith, Domingo Castillo, Mike Ensminger and Jerry Lee Hunt. Stepping down from the board will be Ben High and Mark Meneses.

Isidra L. Rios

November 19, 2013

Funeral services for Isidra L. Rios, 88, of San Angelo will be held at 11 a.m on Friday, November 22, 2013 at McCoy Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater. Rev. Frankie Santiago will officiate and interment will follow at Mitchell County Cemetery in Colorado City under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 21 at McCoy Funeral Home.
Rios died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Community Hospital in San Angelo.
She was born February 9, 1925 in Colorado City. She married Domingo Rios on August 26, 1966 in Colorado City.

SHS boys to start at Early

Sweetwater High School’s boys begin play when they and the girls travel to Early for a basketball doublehea-der today.
The Mustangs return two all-district players — first-team honoree Kaleb Hoover and second-team pick Dylan Bennett — as well as two who got honorable mention, Isaiah McGee and Rhett Torres, from a 13-15 squad. With that talent, the Mustangs are hoping to improve on their fifth-place record (2-8) in district.

The seventh grade and eighth grade Red girls teams both won championships at Sweetwater Middle School’s girls basketball tournament this past weekend.
