Southeast Elementary School is celebrating Red Ribbon Week this week. Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October.

The students of Sweetwater High School started the new school year on the right foot with 63 students making the A-Honor Roll, and Texas National Bank continued with its commitment to recognize and award one lucky scholar from each grade with $50. The winners of the Texas National Bank Good Grades Pay Award for the first six seeks were Kaitlyn Gholson (9th grade), Keegan vonAtzigen (10th grade), Holly Johnson (11th grade) and Jamison Whoolery-Pratt (12th grade). Stella Mae Grice, age 93, of Sweetwater, passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at Sweetwater Healthcare Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ben Richardson officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 at Jayton Cemetery in Jayton, Texas. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013.

Here are the results from Sweetwater Middle School football games last week.
7th grade White 8, Greenwood 0
The game was 0-0 until the fourth quarter, when a scoring pass from Justen Gomez to Kobe McCann and Gomezâs 2-point conversion run gave Sweetwater White the win over Greenwood.
The defensive shutout was led by McCann, Logan Wedin, Phillip Peyton, Blake Andrus, Jaden Hernandez, Tristan Trevizo, John Davis and Joshua Camacho. Other offensive standouts were Wedin, Artyss Smith, Jacob Tucker and Tyler Sutton.
Today will be sunny with a high near 74. Winds will be from the west-southwest around 10 mph.

The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department is administering the flu vaccine during regular immunization clinic every Wednesday from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. and the second Wednesday of each month until 6 p.m. The cost is $20 for all adults and children 3-18 years of age, even if they have insurance. Medicare, part B is accepted. The cost for children who do not have insurance is $6 and Medicaid and CHIP are accepted. For more information regarding immunizations, call 235-5463.
Students at TSTC (Texas State Technical College) in the West Texas Collision Repair Club, part of the auto body program at the school, recently assisted the City of Sweetwater by painting decals on trash barrels at Newman Park.
The trash barrels were recently painted by the TSTC Student Government, but auto body students stenciled âParks Deptâ on the barrels.

It might seem as if there's plenty of time left, but Election Day will be here before we all know it.
The Constitutional Amendment Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013. At this time, however, voters can now start requesting a ballot by mail, in which Friday, Sept. 6 was the first day to apply.
The last day to register to vote was on Monday, Oct. 7. Additionally, the last day for the county clerk to receive the application to vote by mail is on Friday, Oct. 25.
