Itâs that time of year again and the Sweetwater Goodfellows are getting ready to help needy Nolan County families have a better Christmas. Sweetwater Goodfellows provides food and toys to needy families with children and food to needy individuals during the Christmas season. Sign ups will be at the Sweetwater Fire Station, 900 E. Broadway, on Oct. 30 and 31 and Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. All applicants need to bring last proof of income, approval notice for food stamps, birth certificate for each child, pay stub and approval notice for TANF.
Student Success is directly related to regular school attendance. Sweetwater ISD students can raise awareness of the importance of regular school attendance and win great prizes by entering the 2013 You Miss School â You Miss Out poster, essay and video contest.

The Nolan County Commissioners gathered for their meeting on Monday morning, in which approval was given toward a modification to the contract for the work on the roof for the Nolan County Coliseum.
Details were outlined in the contract, in which the roofer was asked to do more work than what was originally bid on in order to be a more secure roof.
Thomas Wayne Miller, age 66 of Sweetwater, passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 at Blackwell Cemetery with Rev. Jimmie Don Bennett officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 from 6-7:30 p.m.
A Sweetwater victory over Snyder in todayâs match at Mustang Gym will end a five-year playoff drought and send the Lady Mustang volleyball team into the postseason as the No. 4 team in District 4-3A.
Sweetwater (3-6) leads Snyder (2-7) by a game for the final playoff berth. If Snyder wins today, how-ever, the teams must meet again later this week to break the tie and decide who will go to the playoffs. If Sweetwater wins either today or later this week, it will face Fabens, the 3-3A champion, next Tuesday in bi-district at Crane.
Sweetwater went 3-1 for the second straight week when its middle school football teams played host to teams from Big Spring this past Thursday.

Sweetwater White was scoreless and trailed 8-0 until coming up with a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter against Big Spring.
Sweetwaterâs scores came on touchdown passes from Jackson Foster to Kobe McCann which covered 15 and 55 yards, respectively.

Norma Bonner was the special guest reader on Monday at the County-City Library, reading many Halloween books and leading children and parents in spooky songs. Those in attendance also enjoyed a Halloween craft and Halloween treats at the event.

East Ridge Elementary School third grade teacher, Jimmy Bennett, was voted by his peers in Region 14 as the 2013 Elementary Teacher of the Year.
He, his wife Lesley and the principal of the school, Vicki Mayberry were recently in Austin for the awards ceremonies. Commissioner of Education Michael L. Williams spoke at the ceremony and presented Mr. Bennett this prestigious award.
