NIE program reaches local students

A community paper like the Sweetwater Reporter becomes part of the lives of those in the cities reached. Every family collects clippings of times when their children, extended family or loved ones are featured on a story or a photograph. This is what the Sweetwater Reporter strives to provide.

Wal-Mart donates to Coats 4 Kids

Pictured is Heather Gesin with Wal-Mart manager Angee White. Wal-Mart generously donated a $100 gift card to Coats 4 Kids.
With the gift card, Gesin was able to purchase five new coats, bringing the total to 62 donated this year.

Health Fair is tomorrow

Texas State Technical College Sweetwater campus will again play host to the annual Nolan County Health Fair. The event, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Student Center, will feature approximately 40 Big Country area vendors.

Juan Guajardo Villa

Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Juan Guajardo Villa, 84, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Father Charles Okonkwo will officiate and interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Villa died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
He was born May 27, 1929, in Sweetwater. He married Adelaida Landeros on July 2, 1950, in Colorado City.

Ignacio Valdez

Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Ignacio Valdez, 70, of Sweetwater will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Father Charles Okonkwo will officiate and interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Valdez died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
He was born July 29, 1943 in Cameron, TX.

Norma Lou Lindemann

Funeral services for Norma Lou Lindemann, 80, of Abilene, formerly of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Rev. Chris Stephens will officiate with interment to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Lindemann died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

SW upsets 1st-place Loboes

MONAHANS — Sweet-water’s football team made the long trip to Monahans on Friday knowing it might face long odds of getting into the Class 3A playoffs without a victory.
They also knew they had to play better defense than what they have shown for most of this season.
After Friday’s 28-9 win, the Mustangs are undoubtedly feeling a lot better about that defense.
They also are probably feeling a lot better about their playoff chances, al-though there is still some work to do before that pos-sibility becomes reality.

Sub-varsity squads fall to Monahans in last games at home

Sweetwater’s sub-varsity high school football teams lost to Monahans squads here on Thursday.
It wa the last home game for both teams, who will be traveling to Wylie this week to end their seasons.
Sweetwater’s JV (6-3, 2-2 district) was on the wrong end of a high-scoring 65-34 contest.
